Position Title: Direct Support Professional (aka DSP, Support Staff)

Employer: Home Inc.

Employment Classification: Non-Exempt, Hourly, can be Full Time or Part Time

Effective Date: 1/1/2025

Summary: This position delivers direct care services, assisting people with developmental disabilities within facilities owned and/or managed by Home Inc. Direct care services can encompass many areas of the person’s life and daily living. Such as, assisting with bill pay, money management, self-care, cooking, cleaning, community living, personal outings, medical appointments and supervision. This position is responsible to assist supported individuals complete and work toward goals, as outlined within their Individualized Support Plans (ISPs). As well as, following supports written and developed by the ISP Team and the agency.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

· Monitor for and report and all abuse and neglect as defined by OARs and the obligations of being a mandatory reporter.

· Fully follow all support documents, agency policies, safety rules and applicable laws, OARs and Revised Statues.

· Contribute toward agency safety

o This can include participation in the agency’s safety committee

o Completion of safety checks

o Reporting of any safety hazards or concerns in a timely manner to a supervisor.

o Checking vehicles for safety concerns before use.

o Following all agency polices and applicable laws while driving agency or personal vehicles.

· Contributing toward the daily health, safety, hygiene and nutritional supports of individuals supported at the agency:

o Administering prescribed medications, treatments, supplements and over-the-counter medications as ordered by the prescriber health provider. In accordance with agency policy and as directed by the Medication Administration Record (MAR).

o Assist residents with hygiene related tasks as directed by their support needs and support documents.

o Preparing meals as outlined by program menu, balancing the health of the individual, budget constraints and health needs.

o Encouraging those supported to contribute toward the general care of the program. This includes dishes, chores, laundry and other general cleaning. Remodeling appropriate techniques and offering as much assistance as needed for success.

o Assisting those supported with grocery shopping and grocery shopping on behalf of the agency.

o Following diets ordered by a medical provider and offering meal choices in line with these limitations. This also includes troubleshooting with individuals who struggle to remain within their diet orders.

· Following and contribute toward the generation and maintenance of support documents the accurately support the person’s current needs.

o Attending and contributing toward ISP Team meetings, as invited or requested.

o Providing timely feedback about the effectiveness of current supports.

o Following all supports as written and reporting concerns if they arise.

o Remaining trained on all current support documents for each individual the DSP serves. Documents must be renewed, at least annually. It is the responsibility of the DSP to remain currently trained on all support documents and receiving training as changes are made.

o Attending meetings with county and state representatives, as needed.

· Timely complete of the following documentation:

o THERAP

o T-logs

o GERs

o Health/Medical Tracking

o Financial Tracking

o Shift Change documents

o Personal property records

o ISP/ADL/IADL/Activity Tracking, etc

o All other tracking as required or assigned.

· Ensuring that documentation is completed in a professional manner and as trained by the agency.

· Training requirements:

o Must maintain 12 hours of annual training related to the field.

o Must maintain current certification in the Oregon Intervention System.

o Renewing training at least every two years.

o Having training redone at the discretion of the agency or OIS Instructors.

o Receiving all additional training, as needed, to maintain applicable “Individual Focus” (IF) certification.

o Maintaining current CPR/First Aid training.

o Training must be renewed every two years.

o Complete all annual training as assigned by the agency

o Complete Core Comp I training within 30 days of hire.

o Complete Core Comp II training within 90 days of hire.

· Contributing toward the maintenance of the assigned program:

o Cleaning

o Yard work

o Removal of debris

o General vehicle maintenance

o Simple patching of drywall

o Painting

· All other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does contain any supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

o Employee must be at least 18 years old.

o High School diploma or equivalent.

o Requires a current valid driver’s license.

o Must be able to obtain:

o Oregon Intervention System certification

o A valid first aid/CPR card

o Use basic computer functions

o Internet

o Word processor

o Navigate and use the THERAP system

o Make use of email.

o Be able to list 25 lbs.

o Be a positive team player.

o Be able to respond to and handle emergency situations, as they occur.

o Ability to work independently with or without direct supervision.

o Ability to follow all agency policy and procedures.

o Follow the direction and instruction of Home Inc.’s handbook.

o Show respect and sensitivity for cultural differences and promote a harassment free workplace.

o Be dependable:

o Showing to shift on time, ready to work.

o Following Home Inc.’s policy regarding call outs or being late to shift

o Use of specialized equipment and/or medical equipment: frequent

o May be required to engage in OIS trained physical techniques/restraints in order to maintain the health and safety of residents within the DSPs care. This can happen as directed by the person’s support and/or in the event of an emergency.
