Duties
- Providing companionship and support, including:
- Household chores
- Monitoring supplies
- Shopping and errands
- Transportation (as needed)
- Walking pets (if client agrees)
- Verbal reminders to take medicine
- Engaging in conversation and providing emotional support
- Activities and recreational engagement
- Keeping the client’s living area clean and orderly, as appropriate.
- Planning and preparing nutritious meals.
- Assist with exercise according to the service delivery plan.
- Doing the client’s laundry, as appropriate.
- Reporting the client’s condition and significant changes to the assigned care coordinator or supervisor.
- Adhering to documentation and care procedures and standards of personal and professional conduct.
- Operate equipment such as Hoyer lifts or resident lifts safely to assist with mobility and prevent injury during transfers
- Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light housekeeping tasks such as cleaning patient areas and ensuring infection control standards are met
- Provide emotional support, companionship, and social engagement to promote mental well-being
Qualifications
- Is at least 18 years of age.
- Possesses and maintains good physical stamina and mental health.
- Has ability to read, follow written instructions, and document services provided.
- Is self-directed with the ability to work with little direct supervision.
- Has empathy for the needs of the ill, injured, frail and impaired.
- Is flexible and cooperative in fulfilling role obligation.
- Demonstrates tact, patience and good personal hygiene.
- Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state and organization requirements and is in good working order OR must maintain a safe and efficient method of transportation aimed at arriving to work as scheduled.
- Prior experience in assisted living, home health care, nursing homes, or group homes is highly preferred
- Ability to lift heavy objects safely and perform physical tasks required for resident transfers and mobility assistance
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work compassionately with diverse populations including seniors and individuals with developmental disabilities
