Job Summary
The Director of Nursing (DON) oversees all clinical functions within the agency, ensuring compliance, coordination, and quality patient outcomes. This position is responsible for supervising nursing and therapy staff, maintaining clinical and documentation compliance, and handling Additional Documentation Reports (ADRs) and other audit-related requirements. The DON collaborates closely with the Administrator and department heads to ensure the highest standards of care, efficiency, and professionalism across all operations.
This role requires exceptional organization, communication, and management skills, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe, and EMR systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Clinical Oversight
- Supervise and guide nursing staff and field clinicians.
- Oversee patient admissions, recertifications, discharges, and clinical care activities.
- Ensure compliance with all clinical standards, including infection control, emergency preparedness, Alzheimer’s/dementia care, and QAPI initiatives.
- Conduct regular chart audits to ensure documentation accuracy and compliance.
- Review and approve clinical notes, orders, and care plans prior to billing.
Patient Care and Quality Assurance
- Monitor patient outcomes and ensure care plans are effectively implemented.
- Perform quality assurance (QA) reviews of charts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Address and resolve clinical concerns promptly and professionally.
- Collaborate with the Administrator to identify and implement process improvements.
Staff Management and Training
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, and training of clinical staff.
- Conduct in-service trainings and competency evaluations.
- Mentor staff and promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, and teamwork.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with the Administrator, Intake Manager, and Community Liaison Director.
- Maintain open communication with physicians, caregivers, and healthcare partners.
- Participate in interdisciplinary meetings to review patient progress.
Compliance and Documentation
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, state, and federal regulations.
- Oversee timely completion of documentation for billing and compliance.
- Address and resolve Additional Documentation Reports (ADRs) and audit findings.
- Participate in the development and execution of the QAPI plan.
Professional Development
- Stay current with home health regulations and best practices.
- Participate in professional training and performance evaluations.
Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Illinois (required).
- Minimum 3 years of nursing experience
- Background in Home Health (required).
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Proficiency inMicrosoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Adobe, and EMR systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask effectively.
- Professional, punctual, and compliant with agency policies (including limited phone/social media use during work hours).
