Home Field Advantage, established in 2016 in Downey, CA, is a 501(c)(3) sports leadership nonprofit dedicated to creating healthier, more connected communities by mentoring local leaders to coach in their neighborhoods at underused facilities, ultimately fostering an inclusive, sustainable sports structure.

JOB DESCRIPTION
HFA is seeking experienced Sports Coaches to provide onsite sport instruction to K-8th grade students at various Downey Unified School District (DUSD), Whittier City School District (WCSD), El Monte City School District (EMCSD) elementary and middle school sites for the 2026–2027 school year. Coaches will also participate in school games and coaching education days throughout the school year.
RESPONSIBILITIES
However not limited to:
- coaching practices for K-8th grade for Downey Unified School District (DUSD), Whittier City School District (WCSD), and El Monte City School District (EMCSD) campuses.
- utilizing HFA coaching curriculum
- mentoring volunteer assistant coaches from local high schools and colleges
- adjusting curriculum according to different levels and ages
- setting up and cleaning up practice environment
- assuring all equipment is organized and put away after practice
- maintaining communication with HFA staff, volunteers, and families
- creating a fun and encouraging environment for players and volunteer coaches of all levels
WORK SCHEDULE
This is a part-time position. Shifts are typically between 3:00pm to 6:00pm, Monday–Friday, in alignment with each school district’s 2026–2027 school year (hours may vary). Coaches may be scheduled to work more than one shift, depending on availability. Practices begin Fall 2026.
QUALIFICATIONS
- must be passionate about inspiring youth through sports and leadership
- experience coaching school-age children
- experience leading groups of school-age children
- must be 18
- have a mode of transportation to get to practice in a timely manner
- have a positive attitude!
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 2 years of coaching experience
- Bilingual: English and Spanish
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- background check clearance
- TB test clearance from doctor
Within the first 30 days of employment, the following certificates must be obtained through HFA:
- CPR & First Aid Certification
- Mandated Reporter Training (General & School Personnel)
- Sexual Harassment Prevention Training (Nonsupervisory)
