What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Inspector position at Home Environmental Quality Engineering?
A Building Inspector, also known in the environmental consulting industry as an Industrial Hygienist, performs on-site inspections and assessments of residential and commercial buildings to evaluate environmental conditions that may affect occupant health and safety.
Responsibilities include conducting surveys and collecting samples to assess indoor air quality and identify environmental hazards such as mold, asbestos, lead, bacteria, smoke, and soot contamination. Inspectors document their findings, follow established inspection protocols, and communicate observations professionally.
No prior experience or industry knowledge is required. Home Environmental Quality Engineering provides comprehensive, hands-on training to all new hires until they are fully prepared to perform inspections independently. In addition, the company enrolls employees in industry certification courses and covers all associated training and certification costs, providing a clear path for professional development and career growth.
Qualifications:
- Willing to drive for up to 80% of the workday. (If you do not enjoy driving, this position may not be a good fit.)
- Available to work 30–40 hours per week, with the possibility of up to 45 hours during busy periods.
- Willing to work on every other Saturday.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Basic computer skills.
- Clean background record.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to lift at least 40 pounds.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
