What are the responsibilities and job description for the ALANA Student Ambassadors - (2 positions) position at Holyoke Community College?
ALANA Student Ambassadors provide peer-to-peer mentorship and support to a cohort of ALANA Scholars. They assist professional ALANA Mentors with program/workshop facilitation, outreach initiatives, planning of events, and community-building activities at Holyoke Community College. All ALANA Student Ambassadors are required to successfully complete a mandatory peer mentor training prior to beginning active responsibilities.
ALANA Men in Motion is an equity-driven student success program within HCC’s SUCCESS Initiative that promotes academic achievement, personal growth, and belonging through mentorship, culturally responsive support, and community engagement. The program centers the experiences of African American/Black, Latino/x, Asian, and Native American men while welcoming all eligible students committed to personal growth and collective support.
Grounded in the core values of Empower, Elevate, and Excel, ALANA provides opportunities for students to build community, develop confidence, and support one another’s success. Student Ambassadors work closely with professional ALANA Mentors and are supervised by the Director of ALANA Men in Motion.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Mentorship & Student Support
- Provide peer-to-peer mentorship and consistent outreach to a small caseload of assigned ALANA Scholars.
- Build meaningful connections with assigned ALANA Scholars through consistent and personalized outreach, including regular face-to-face meetings whenever possible.
- Meet weekly with an ALANA Mentor to review Scholar caseloads, discuss student concerns, and receive support and guidance.
- Document interactions with ALANA Scholars in a timely and professional manner using designated systems and processes.
- Make appropriate referrals to campus support services and resources at HCC
- Establish and maintain healthy, professional, and respectful boundaries in Ambassador-Scholar relationships.
- Promote student academic achievement, persistence, personal growth, and engagement.
- Serve as a positive role model and representative of the ALANA community.
- Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment that promotes community and belonging.
Program Engagement & Representation
- Support outreach, recruitment, and Scholar engagement initiatives.
- Help organize and support workshops, cultural programs, community service projects, and ALANA events.
- Represent ALANA and HCC at campus and community events.
- Provide campus tours for prospective students and guests.
- Serve as a greeter during the first week of classes each semester.
- Assist with collaborative programs and initiatives with campus partners and departments.
- Assist current and incoming students with campus technology and student systems (e.g., Navigate, Canvas, Google Suite, student email, etc.).
- Support ALANA office operations and program initiatives as needed.
Professionalism & Communication
- Always maintain a high level of professionalism, including in communication, dress, conduct, reliability, and interactions on campus and at events.
- Respond to communications from staff, peers, and ALANA Scholars within 24–48 hours, excluding weekends and holidays unless otherwise noted.
- Attend all required training, workshops, team meetings, peer mentor development sessions, program activities, and orientation sessions unless excused in advance by an ALANA staff member.
- Demonstrate accountability, initiative, teamwork, and respect when engaging with students, staff, and community members.
Logistics & Time Management
- Work 10 hours per week during the academic year, with a minimum of 6–8 hours completed on campus unless otherwise approved by ALANA staff.
- Balance mentoring responsibilities, meetings, events, and administrative expectations while maintaining academic progress.
- Accurately report hours worked using the College’s designated timekeeping system in compliance with HCC policies.
Required Qualifications:
To be eligible for the ALANA Student Ambassador position, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Currently enrolled in a certificate or degree program.
- Currently taking at least 6 credits.
- Must have successfully completed at least 6 college credits.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75.

- Familiarity with ALANA Men in Motion, campus support services, student organizations, or college life at HCC.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, relationship-building, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage time effectively while balancing academic, personal, and professional responsibilities.
Part-Time/Non-Benefited position (2 open positions)
Compensation: $15.45/hour.
Hours: 10 hours per week
