Holy Spirit Retirement Home is Siouxland’s only locally owned, faith-based senior care facility. We provide skilled nursing, assisted living, independent living, and long-term care services—and we are currently seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Senior Accountant to support and strengthen our financial operations.
This position serves as a key liaison between the Executive Director and the Business Office team, helping ensure accurate financial reporting, operational consistency, regulatory compliance, and process improvement across the organization and Foundation. The Senior Accountant will play a vital role in developing structure, oversight, and accountability within business office functions while supporting strategic financial initiatives.
If hired, orientation and onboarding will include a multi-day process involving training, physical testing, and department tours. The schedule for this process is Tue–Fri 9:00am–5:00pm. Please anticipate this when accepting the job offer.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily oversight, guidance, and support to the Business Office Manager and business office staff
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, billing, and related financial workflows
- Review and monitor accounting functions to ensure compliance with internal controls, best practices, and regulatory requirements
- Develop, document, implement, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for core business office functions
- Identify inefficiencies, inconsistencies, or gaps in current processes and recommend corrective actions and workflow improvements
- Perform general ledger reconciliations and assist with monthly and year-end close processes
- Oversee bank reconciliations, trust fund accounts, and revenue-related entries
- Reconcile resident billing and collections accounts related to Skilled Nursing, Assisted Living, and Independent Living services
- Assist the CFO in preparing financial reports, board reports, analysis, and supporting documentation
- Support annual audit preparation, including workpapers, reconciliations, and auditor requests
- Maintain accurate documentation and audit trails for financial transactions and reconciliations
- Collaborate with leadership in budgeting and forecasting processes
- Provide financial insights and analysis based on historical trends and operational data
- Ensure compliance with GAAP standards and applicable regulations
- Maintain and strengthen internal financial controls to reduce errors and improve accountability
- Communicate effectively with vendors, department leaders, auditors, and stakeholders to support financial operations
- Promote teamwork, operational consistency, and continuous process improvement within the business office
Required Qualifications & Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; and/or equivalent professional experience
- Minimum of 7 years of professional accounting experience, including supervisory or team leadership responsibilities
- Demonstrated experience with:
- General ledger reconciliation
- Audit preparation and support
- Trust fund and revenue account oversight
- Payroll and accounts payable/receivable workflows
- SOP creation and process improvement initiatives
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
- Proficiency in accounting software such as Sage 50, Microsoft Great Plains, or similar systems
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong analytical abilities
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently while fostering collaboration across departments
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in healthcare, senior living, long-term care, or nonprofit environments
- Prior experience supporting audits and regulatory compliance processes
- Experience overseeing or mentoring business office staff
- Strong process improvement and operational leadership mindset
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
