Job Overview
The Hospice Volunteer & Community Outreach Coordinator is responsible for the development, coordination, and administration of the hospice volunteer program while also supporting community outreach, marketing, events, and referral relationship activities.
This position recruits, interviews, orients, trains, assigns, and evaluates hospice volunteers and ensures compliance with hospice policies and procedures. The Coordinator also represents the hospice in the community by assisting with community events, health fairs, facility visits, educational presentations, and other outreach activities.
The position works closely with the Business Development team, liaisons, clinical leadership, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to promote awareness of hospice services, strengthen community relationships, support referral partners, and ensure that volunteer and outreach activities align with organizational goals.
Essential Responsibilities
Volunteer Program Coordination
- Coordinate and oversee the hospice volunteer program across all service areas.
- Recruit, interview, select, orient, and train hospice volunteers.
- Assign volunteers to patients, families, facilities, or other volunteer services based on program needs and the volunteers' interests, skills, and availability.
- Plan and supervise the delivery of volunteer services.
- Monitor and evaluate volunteer performance and provide ongoing support and guidance.
- Ensure volunteers comply with hospice policies, procedures, confidentiality requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
- Plan and conduct volunteer support meetings, educational activities, and training as needed.
- Maintain accurate volunteer records, including services provided, volunteer hours, assignments, training, and other required documentation.
- Monitor and maintain systems used to track volunteer services and actual time contributed.
- Prepare volunteer program reports and other reports as requested by the Director.
- Facilitate community awareness and support of the hospice volunteer program.
- Maintain positive working relationships with hospice leadership, clinical staff, community organizations, facilities, and other program leaders.
- Participate in staff in-services and provide presentations or education related to volunteer services as assigned.
Community Outreach & Marketing Support
- Assist the Business Development team and liaisons with community outreach and marketing activities.
- Assist with planning, coordinating, and attending community events, health fairs, facility visits, educational programs, and other outreach opportunities.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with referral sources, healthcare facilities, community organizations, and other community partners.
- Assist with scheduling and coordinating meetings, presentations, educational programs, and in-services for referral partners and community organizations.
- Deliver hospice marketing materials and ensure appropriate materials and supplies are available at partner locations and community events.
- Represent the hospice in a professional and positive manner at community events, facility visits, and other public-facing activities.
- Assist with increasing community awareness of hospice services and the organization's volunteer program.
- Support the Business Development team with follow-up activities, outreach efforts, and relationship-building initiatives.
- Track community outreach activities, events, contacts, referrals, and follow-ups as assigned.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in applicable CRM, EMR, or other organizational systems.
- Assist with obtaining and processing patient consents and other required documentation when assigned and appropriately trained.
- Provide professional and compassionate customer service to patients, families, referral partners, volunteers, healthcare professionals, and community members.
- Assist with marketing and outreach administrative duties as needed.
General Responsibilities
- Maintain confidentiality of patient, volunteer, employee, and organizational information.
- Follow all hospice policies, procedures, compliance requirements, and applicable federal and state regulations.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, volunteers, healthcare professionals, referral partners, and members of the community.
- Respond appropriately to situations that may require immediate attention or crisis response outside of a hospital setting.
- Demonstrate acceptance of and adaptability to diverse social, cultural, racial, and religious backgrounds.
- Participate in organizational meetings, in-services, training, and other activities as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or Administrator.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in marketing, healthcare administration, communications, social services, or a related field preferred.
- Previous experience in hospice, home health, healthcare marketing, volunteer coordination, community outreach, or a medical office setting preferred.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
- Highly organized with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with the interdisciplinary team and Business Development team.
- Comfortable working in a field-based environment and traveling to community events, facilities, referral partners, and other locations as needed.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Familiarity with CRM and/or EMR systems preferred.
- Experience with event planning, community outreach, volunteer coordination, or educational presentations preferred.
- Ability to respond appropriately to crisis situations outside of a hospital setting.
- Acceptance of and adaptability to different social, cultural, racial, and religious backgrounds.
- Must possess a current and valid driver's license, maintain required auto liability insurance, and have reliable transportation.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
