Position Summary


The Adjunct Faculty member in Health Sciences is responsible for providing high-quality instruction within the School of Nursing and Health Sciences across a variety of undergraduate and/or certificate-based courses. The faculty member supports student learning through classroom, laboratory, simulation, hybrid, and online instruction while promoting professional development, critical thinking, and interprofessional collaboration aligned with the mission and values of the institution.


Adjunct faculty may teach courses in areas including, but not limited to:



  • Health Sciences (HSCS): Health Innovation Design, Informatics for Healthcare, Introduction to Healthcare Professions, Pop Culture and Health, Professional Development for Healthcare, Legal and Ethical Healthcare, Physical Assessment across the Lifespan for Healthcare Providers, Basic Pharmacology for Healthcare Providers, Pathophysiology for Health Professions.

  • Integrated Health Promotion (HPWE): Introduction to Health/Wellness, Health Promotion through the Lifespan, Strategies of Stress Management, Teaching Strategies, Coaching Principles, Research for Evidence Based Practice, Health Policy, Health/Wellness Planning, Internship I and II, Theories of health Behaviors, Seminar: Contemporary Issues. 

  • Emergency Medical Services and Leadership (EMSL): Foundations of Emergency Care, Cardiac/Respiratory Emergencies, Special population/Situations in EMS, Adult Medical Emergencies, Emergency Response Fundamentals, Medication Administration and Safety, EMS Operations, Assessment Management and Leadership in EMS, EMS management Healthcare Teams/Leadership, OB/GYN Pediatric management and Care, EMS Critical Care medicine, EMS Clinical Practice, Clinical Judgement and Decision making. 

  • Emergency Medical Technician Certificate 

  • Paramedic Certificate 

  • Prehospital degree courses

  • Clinical Skills labs & Simulation for Health Sciences Academy

  • Healthcare Communication 

  • Wellness & Nutrition 

  • Healthcare Leadership 

  • Patient Care Skills 

  • Medical Assistant or Allied Health coursework 


Responsibilities



  • Provide instruction in assigned Health Sciences courses in accordance with institutional and program objectives. 

  • Maintain course materials, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, and assessments. 

  • Utilize evidence-based teaching strategies to promote student engagement and success. 

  • Teach in classroom, laboratory, simulation, clinical, hybrid, and/or online learning environments as assigned. 

  • Evaluate student academic performance and provide timely feedback regarding progress. 

  • Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and course documentation in the learning management system. 

  • Support the integration of simulation, technology, and active learning methodologies when appropriate. 

  • Promote professional behavior, ethical practice, and patient-centered care principles. 

  • Participate in orientation, faculty meetings, curriculum discussions, and program activities as requested. 

  • Participate as part of the Health Sciences Council within the SONHS. 

  • Maintain compliance with institutional policies, accreditation standards, and applicable regulatory requirements. 

  • Collaborate with administrators, faculty, staff, and clinical/community partners to support student learning experiences. 

  • Maintain current knowledge and competency within area(s) of expertise. 

  • Assist with laboratory preparation, skills validation, and student remediation as needed. 

  • Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment for diverse student populations. 


Qualifications


Required Qualifications



  • Master’s degree in related field (Health Sciences, Nursing, Public Health, EMS, Allied Health, Psychology, or Education). 

  • Bachelor’s degree with specialized clinical expertise may be considered based on course assignment. 

  • Certifications/Credentialing in specific field for designated courses where appliable 

  • Current professional licensure, certification, or credentialing as appropriate to discipline. 

  • For clinical based courses, minimum of 2–3 years of clinical, healthcare, or related professional experience. 

  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. 

  • Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary academic environment. 

  • Proficiency with educational technology and learning management systems. 


Preferred Qualifications



  • Previous experience in education and/or healthcare environment, or workforce development programs. 

  • Experience with simulation-based education or clinical instruction where applicable. 

  • Experience working with adult learners and diverse student populations. 

  • Familiarity with accreditation and regulatory standards related to healthcare education programs where applicable. 

  • Certifications such as BLS Instructor, ACLS, PALS, EMT/Paramedic, CNA Instructor, or specialty certifications related to assigned coursework. 


Physical Requirements



  • Ability to demonstrate clinical and laboratory skills when applicable. 

  • Ability to stand for extended periods during instruction or laboratory sessions. 

  • Ability to lift and move educational equipment or simulation materials as needed.

  • Traditional classroom settings 

  • Skills laboratories 

  • Simulation laboratories

  • Field Placement Preceptor 

  • Clinical laboratory environments 

  • Community or healthcare partner sites 

  • Online or hybrid learning platforms 


Employment Status



  • Part-Time Adjunct Faculty 

  • Semester-based contractual appointment 

  • Online, Blended, evening, weekend, and daytime teaching opportunities may be available depending on program needs.

  • Based on course enrollment
