Our two campuses in Methuen and Haverhill have a total of 320 beds and we are a full service, acute care hospital offering comprehensive inpatient medical/surgical units, outpatient care, and 24/7 emergency services. We have three behavioral health units, cardiac telemetry, and critical care service lines. Our Haverhill campus offers all private rooms, and our Methuen campus offers a new state-of-the-art catheterization suite and Joint Center of Excellence named as a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for Knee and Hip Replacement.
Job Summary: Chaplain, PT 20 hours
Reporting to and at the direction of the Director for Spiritual Care, this position is for an experienced and proven inter-faith chaplain to work as a part of a busy interfaith spiritual care team in a clinical multi-disciplinary health care setting, across two campuses yet mainly located in Methuen Massachusetts.
The successful applicant will possess the ability and experience to provide spiritual care across all categories of personal diversity, with sensitivity to the faith tradition of each patient, family member and staff person in the hospital.
While a high degree of individual autonomy is necessary, the chaplain must also function well as a part of a team, and readily able to handle fluctuating care demands.
The role will require daily presence with regular or per-diem hours, some possibly at weekends, and a willingness to respond to out-of-hours and emergency needs.
This position may involve collaboration, and team working with our hospital volunteers and Eucharistic ministers, as well as area clergy. Excellent administrative, time management and organization skills are essential.
Minimum Education/Experience:
- At least 2 units of Clinical Pastoral Education at an ACPE accredited CPE center. 4 units greatly preferred.
- Chaplaincy experience, preferably at least 1 year in a health care context
- Postgraduate education in Theology/Ministry/Divinity/Pastoral Ministry desirable, M.Div. preferred.
- Achievement and maintenance of Ecclesiastical Endorsement or similar Approval for chaplaincy from a recognized spiritual tradition/community or faith community leader.
- A willingness to complete 4 units of CPE and to seek board certificate with an ACPE-recognized cognate body (e.g. APC, NACC, NAJC, NAMC, CASC).
Minimum skills/abilities:
- Knowledge and proficient computer skills with experience with Excel, Work and Power Point Microsoft programs.
- Knowledge and proficiency with Electronic Medical Record Systems.
- Excellent interpersonal skills in an interfaith setting and working with the public.
- Comfort with complying with Employee Health Services requirements including annual influenza inoculations.
- Comfort with providing care across all hospital clinical areas, especially with necessary infection control measures.
- Proven ability to receive direction, diligently work as a member of a busy integrated team and yet with a high degree of personal autonomy.
- Availability for variable hours each week, weekdays between 7am and 8pm. Hours to be agreed with the Director.
- Willingness and availability to reasonably respond to urgent needs and spiritual care consultation requests outside of normal working hours.
