What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dietician - Registered (NON CDCES) position at Holy Cross Medical Center?
POSITION PURPOSE
The Registered Dietitian (NON CDCES) position provides individualized diabetes self-management education and training to individuals and groups according to the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education. The position provides initial and comprehensive skills training and education to patients and family members with diabetes and other medical nutrition diagnoses regarding planning, coordinating and evaluating self-management care. Performs a variety of specialized patient education and care management related to the nutrition and lifestyle counseling of patients and families referred by their primary physician for Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT). This may include but are not limited to, weight management, cardiovascular disease, renal disease, malnutrition/weight gain, infants with failure to thrive, cancer and nutrition therapy, gastrointestinal disorders and nutrition therapy, sports nutrition or healthy diet. May also be required to assess and evaluate outpatients receiving home tube feedings. Responsible for some clinic-related administrative duties as it pertains to data and productivity collection, marketing and accreditation of the program. Lead in planning classes for both weight management and diabetes prevention.
MINIMUM MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS

- EDUCATION:
- Minimum one (1) year experience as a dietitian in the outpatient setting.
- Qualifying Master or Bachelor’s Degree to sit for the Registered Dietitian Exam.
- License as a Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist issued by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
- Current State of New Mexico Nutrition & Dietetics Practice Board license as a licensed dietitian.
- Current registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration is required.
- Certification as a Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) is required within two (2) years of hire.
- MANDATORY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
- Performs duties independently with minimal supervision, operating from specific and definite direction and instructions. Decisions are of a routine or critical nature, made within prescribed operating guidelines, policies and procedures. Is responsible for performing job duties within institutional guidelines.
- Experience with or willingness to learn the use of Evident/Meditech for electronic health record documentation.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite programs.
- Strong ability to work with a team.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Board Certification as a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES).
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
