Position Summary
This position is responsible for maintaining a safe environment of care. Performs a variety of skilled and unskilled jobs. Evaluates and implements repair and maintenance as needed to both equipment and to the facility interior and exterior, including grounds. Responsible for coordinating the preventative repair and maintenance of equipment to ensure that all bio-med equipment is safe and functioning according to standards of the industry. Ensures that parking lots, sidewalks, and entrances to the facility are safe and free of snow, ice, or debris. Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Job Duties
- Facility Safety, Compliance & Life Safety
- Performs required facility inspections, preventive maintenance, and documentation.
- Maintains safety equipment, logs, and records to support regulatory compliance.
- Conducts inspections and testing of emergency power, emergency lighting, exit lighting, exterior lighting, and helipad lighting (if applicable).
- Assists with fire alarm, sprinkler, and life safety system inspections and certifications.
- Maintenance, Utilities & Building Systems
- Performs general maintenance, repairs, and minor construction throughout hospital and clinic facilities.
- Conducts routine checks of HVAC, electrical, water, and mechanical systems, including transfer panels.
- Maintains HVAC systems including HEPA and surgical air filter changes.
- Performs ice machine cleaning, filter changes, flushing, and sanitization per infection prevention standards.
- Equipment Support & Preventive Maintenance
- Coordinates and assists with preventive maintenance and required inspections of hospital and selected medical equipment.
- Ensures equipment and systems function safely and according to regulatory and manufacturer standards.
- Completes and documents work orders in a timely manner.
- Grounds, Exterior & Support Services
- Maintains hospital grounds, parking areas, sidewalks, and entrances in safe and clean condition.
- Performs snow and ice removal and debris control as needed.
- Maintains mechanical rooms, workspaces, and storage areas in an organized and safe manner.
- Assists with emergency response, disaster preparedness, and other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Preference will be given to applicants with education or training in a maintenance field.
- Prefer 3-5 years’ experience or training in maintenance, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical systems preferred.
Physical Abilities
- Moderate to Heavy Work. The employee is regularly required to frequently walk or stand, as well as a great deal of lifting in a variety of locations; some areas being tight, awkward spaces. The employee is frequently required to climb, balance, and lift and/or move 75 pounds or more. The employee must be able to shovel snow. The employee must be able to use hands, reach, and walk, stoop and bend; must lift or move various supplies, furniture and other types of equipment; must be able to climb on ladders and reach overhead for general repair and maintenance duties. Hear equipment knocks, rattles, alarms, bells, squeals. Determine colors and shades of colors. Able to operate lawn equipment and power tools.
- Must be capable of communicating clearly (reading, writing and speaking) in the English language.
- Must be capable of operating a personal computer with Microsoft excel and the internet.
- Must be capable of reading and comprehending written policies, procedures, laws, regulations and operating and maintenance manuals.
- Must be capable of reading thermometers, computer screens, gauges and timers. Must be able to record readings, write reports, policies and procedures.
