HBI is seeking a skilledEquipment Operator to join our underground utility construction team. In this role, you’ll operate a variety of heavy and light equipment to install, repair, and maintain underground utility systems. This includes excavation, trenching, cable placement, and restoration work while maintaining safety and quality standards on every job.

What You’ll Do
- Operate construction equipment such as backhoes, mini-excavators, trenchers, plows, and bore rigs.
- Perform excavation, trenching, shoring, and cable placement according to project specifications.
- Read and interpret blueprints and communicate with the foreman on project plans.
- Work safely around existing utilities and expose lines by hand when required.
- Maintain and inspect equipment daily (greasing, fueling, checking fluids, etc.).
- Train and support laborers on proper techniques and safety practices.
- Restore job sites upon completion and secure equipment at the end of each shift.
- Transport heavy equipment when holding a valid CDL.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in utility construction or a related field.
- Licenses: Valid driver’s license and Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with current Medical Card.
- Ability to read and follow blueprints.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Capable of working independently and managing changing job demands.
- Must be 18 years or older.
Working Conditions
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Exposure to noise, dust, and moving mechanical parts.
- Physical activity including standing, walking, lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, and kneeling.
- Travel to all company jobsites as necessary, including out of state.
- Overnight stays may be required.
