What are the responsibilities and job description for the Museum Assistant position at Holocaust Museum & Cohen Education Center?
The Museum Assistant will work with a wide variety of staff to ensure smooth operation of the Museum and help reach the goals set in its mission. The Museum Assistant will make sure daily and weekly administrative tasks are completed, as well as work towards the long-term care of the Museum’s collections. It is expected that the split in duties will be approximately 70% administrative and 30% curatorial, with some seasonal variation.
Task will include:
- Assisting the Development Specialist with campaign materials, mailings, event preparation, and other administrative tasks
- Supporting the Museum’s smooth operation by assisting with opening and closing duties, as well as fulling in at the front desk as needed
- Assisting with and training Guest Relations volunteers
- Gather photos, artifacts, and research for social media content
- Answer the phone and direct calls when possible
- Describing and cataloging materials accepted into the Museum’s collections
- Assisting with regular collections duties, including digitization, rehousing, and additional tasks that the curator deems necessary for the display and care of collections
- Assisting with editing and installation of the Museum’s exhibitions
- Additional tasks as needed to ensure the smooth operation of the Museum
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher (History, Holocaust Studies, Genocide Studies, Library Science, or other relevant field preferred)
- Skills in Microsoft Office and other Microsoft-based programs
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with metadata creation preferred
- Knowledge of cataloging programs such as PastPerfect5 or other CMS system preferred
- Knowledge of DonorPerfect preferred
