Holmdel Eye Center is a growing ophthalmology practice in Holmdel, NJ dedicated to delivering exceptional surgical eye care. We are looking for a self-motivated Medical Receptionist who takes ownership of the front desk, identifies what needs to get done without being asked, and brings a proactive mindset to every part of the role. What You Will Do
- Welcome patients warmly and manage check-in and check-out efficiently for a busy specialty practice
- Schedule and confirm patient appointments and coordinate cataract surgical scheduling including pre-op preparation and ASC communication
- Verify medical and vision insurance eligibility prior to each visit and accurately apply the correct payer for each visit type
- Obtain prior authorizations for ophthalmic procedures including cataract surgery, glaucoma treatment, and medical retina diagnoses
- Collect co-pays, co-insurances, and outstanding patient balances at time of service
- Review EOBs and flag claim discrepancies or denials for timely follow-up
- Communicate patient financial responsibility and insurance coverage clearly and professionally
- Manage a high-volume multi-line phone system, triaging patient inquiries, referral calls, and post-operative follow-up scheduling
- Maintain accurate patient records in Modmed EHR in full compliance with HIPAA
- Coordinate with referring optometrists on co-managed surgical patients to ensure seamless care transitions
What You Bring
- Minimum 2 years of medical front desk experience; ophthalmology or optometry background strongly preferred
- Familiarity with Modmed or any specialty EHR system
- Solid understanding of medical and vision insurance, prior authorization, and specialty billing workflows
- Strong phone skills and a calm, professional presence in a fast-paced environment
- High attention to detail and the ability to juggle multiple priorities without dropping the ball
- Self-starter who identifies gaps, takes initiative, and follows through without waiting to be directed
- Bilingual English and Spanish or English and Arabic is a strong plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
