MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

Position Summary:

Dedicated and experienced Sub-Acute Care Administrator to oversee the operations of our sub-acute care facility that is a distinct part (d/p) of our acute care hospital. Administrator will be responsible for ensuring high-quality patient care, managing staff, and maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations. Will play a critical role in developing and implementing policies and procedures that enhance patient outcomes and operational efficiency.

Duties:

1. Operational Management:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the sub-acute care facility.
  • Ensure efficient and effective service delivery to patients.
  • Develop and implement operational policies and procedures.
  • Maintain an adequate liaison with families and residents.
  • Maintain a good public relations program that serves the best interest of the facility and community alike.

2. Staff Management:

  • Recruit, train, and supervise staff members.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment.

3. Patient Care:

  • Ensure that patients receive high-quality care in accordance with their treatment plans.
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust care strategies as necessary.
  • Address patient and family concerns with empathy and professionalism.

4. Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and standards.
  • Prepare for and participate in inspections and audits.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry regulations and best practices.
  • Review and Develop a plan of correction for deficiencies noted during survey inspections and provide a written copy of such in collaboration with the organization’s regulatory oversite to the governing board and ombudsman representative as required.

5. Financial Management:

  • Prepare and manage the facility budget.
  • Monitor revenue and expenses to ensure financial sustainability.
  • Implement cost-control measures while maintaining quality care.

6. Quality Improvement:

  • Develop and monitor quality improvement initiatives.
  • Analyze data to identify areas for improvement in patient care and operational efficiency.
  • Lead staff training on quality improvement practices.
  • Participate in Infection Prevention practices

7. Committee Functions:

  • Serve on various committees of the facility and provide written/oral reports of such committee meetings as directed or as may become necessary
  • Assist Quality department in developing and implementing appropriate plans of action to correct identified quality deficiencies
  • Evaluate and implement recommendations from the facility’s committees as necessary.

8. Safety

  • Ensure all facility personnel, visitors, etc., follow established safety regulations, to include fire protection/prevention, smoking regulations, infection prevention, etc.
  • Ensure the building and grounds are maintained in good repair.
  • Review accident/incident reports and establish an effective accident prevention program.
  • Ensure all personnel follow established regulations governing the use of labels and MDSs for hazardous materials.
  • Ensure that facility procedure manuals identify safety precautions and equipment to use when performing tasks that could cause bodily injury.
  • Ensure that facility personnel follow established ergonomics policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all facility personnel performing tasks that involve potential exposure to blood, body fluids, or hazardous materials participate in in-service training program prior to performing such tasks.

9. Resident Rights:

  • Maintain confidentiality of all resident information.
  • Ensure the residents’ rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage complaints are well established and maintained at all times.
  • Review resident complaints and grievances and follow-up as required.
  • Ensure that resident funds maintained by the facility are managed in accordance with current federal and state regulations and that appropriate accounting records are maintained.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, nursing, or a related field

Preferred Education

  • Master’s Degree Preferred

Minimum Work Experience and Qualifications

  • Must have, a minimum, 3-5 years’ experience in a supervisory capacity in an acute care hospital, long-term care facility or skilled nursing facility.
  • Proven experience in healthcare administration, particularly in sub-acute or long-term care settings.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare regulations and compliance.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Proficient in healthcare management software and electronic health records (EHR), and finance management.
  • Experience in managing sub-acute units or ventilator-dependent patient care.
  • Familiarity with California Department of Public Health (CDPH) regulations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage crisis situations effectively.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to work in a union environment.

Required Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation

  • Nursing Home Administrator’s License for Sub-Acute in the State of California
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Current Los Angeles County Fire Card (required within 30 days of hire)
  • Assault Response Competency (ARC) (required within 30 days of hire)
