Job Summary

Hollywood Feed is seeking an experienced, analytical, and hands-on Interim Manager, Compensation & Benefits to lead and optimize our total rewards operations during a transitional period. This role is responsible for the oversight, administration, and compliance of company-wide wage structures, incentive plans, health/wellness benefits, and retirement programs across our retail footprint, distribution centers, and headquarters. The ideal interim leader brings strong benefits experience, a deep understanding of multi-state employment regulations, and a data-driven approach to maintaining competitive, equitable total rewards that support talent retention in a high-growth environment. The approximate period for this assignment is 3-6 months.

Key Responsibilities

Benefits Administration & Oversight

• Manage the day-to-day administration of group health, dental, vision, life, disability, and 401(k) programs.
• Act as the primary liaison with third-party brokers, benefit vendors, and insurance carriers to resolve escalations and ensure seamless coverage.
• Support open enrollment preparation, communications, system testing, and execution in partnership with the HR & Operational leadership team.
• Support employee total rewards inquiries with strong focus on excellent customer service.
  
  
  

Compensation & Wage Structuring

• Audit and maintain base pay structures and pay bands to ensure internal equity and external market competitiveness.
• Perform job evaluations, salary benchmarking, and market pricing for new and existing roles as requested or during the annual Market Wage Analysis.
• Conduct wage and overtime compliance audits under FLSA and state-specific payroll guidelines.
  
  
  

Compliance & Reporting

• Ensure strict organizational adherence to federal, state, and local labor laws, including ERISA, COBRA, and HIPAA.
• Manage required regulatory filings, audits, and compliance testing (e.g., Form 5500s, non-discrimination testing, etc.).
• Generate actionable HR analytics, total rewards spend reporting, and variance metrics for executive leadership.
  
  
  

HR Systems & Process Improvement

• Serve as the functional administrator for compensation and benefits modules within the HRIS platform.
• Identify process bottlenecks, streamline enrollments and status updates, and document SOPs to ensure seamless operations during the interim period.
• Collaborate closely with Payroll to ensure accurate deductions, bonus payouts, and benefit contribution reconcilement.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Commitment to animals and their owners is vital at Hollywood Feed.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to explain total rewards programs clearly to team members across all levels.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, complex formulas, VLOOKUPs/XLOOKUPs, data modeling).
• Hands-on experience administering benefits and compensation through modern HRIS/payroll suites (e.g., Paycor, ADP, UKG, Workday).
• Thorough working knowledge of ERISA, FLSA, ACA, FMLA, COBRA, and state payroll/benefits compliance standards.
• Ability to synthesize complex numerical data into clear financial models and executive recommendations.
• High degree of integrity, sound judgment, and confidentiality when handling sensitive salary and employee medical information.

Education & Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• Experience: 5 years of progressive experience in compensation and benefits management, ideally within retail, multi-site distribution, or fast-paced consumer industries.
• Interim Leadership: Proven track record in stepping into interim, contract, or transition roles and stabilizing total rewards programs efficiently (Prefer).
