POSITION SUMMARY
Guided by the mission of the YMCA, the Bus Driver is responsible for the safe transportation of the participants on the YMCA bus.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Core Functions:
- Relationship Building – Engage in active listening with members in order to build relationships, understand individual’s goals and interests, and take the initiative to assist in the achievement of those goals.
- Customer Service Excellence – Provide excellent customer service and positive communication to all customers, including but not limited to, members, participants, guests, volunteers, and fellow employees, by listening first and responding to their needs in a safe and effective manner.
- Role Model – Model and encourage the development and practice of the YMCA character values (Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility), performing all assigned duties with energy and enthusiasm. Abide by all personnel policies and guidelines, follow all reasonable directives issued by leadership, and uphold rules, regulations and safety standards associated with the YMCA.
- Annual Support Campaign – Provide support for the annual campaign and other special events when possible and as directed.
- Risk Management – Remain familiar with risk management procedures in the YMCA facility, which include but are not limited to: swimming pool rules and procedures, current CPR/AEDand First Aid certification, child abuse prevention, and understanding specific responsibilities during fire, hurricane, tornado, or other emergency situations.
Job-Specific Functions:
· Work cooperatively with all program staff to provide transportation services according to the established schedule and route.
· Inspect and document all inspections of the bus/vehicle prior to every run to ensure safety. Report any hazards that may present a threat to the safety of the participants. Adhere to all maintenance schedules and document all work performed to maintain the bus/vehicle. Report all safety and risk management problems and assist in correcting problems as they occur.
· Take responsibility for the continuous cleanliness of the bus/vehicle.
· Follow all established procedures for field trips (if taken), and assist in ensuring that all participants are continuously accounted for, safe, and returned to the YMCA at the end of the trip.
· Report and/or prepare health, behavioral, and incident reports (legibly and on the proper forms) as required.
· Complete all required training in the timeframes set forth in the position's Training Plan.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
PREREQUISITES
Minimum Age: 21
Education: High School Diploma/Equiv.
Certs/Licenses: Valid Commercial Driver License Class B or above with Passenger (P) and DOT Medical Card. Must have a valid Florida driver’s license within 30 days of employment; CPR/AED/First Aid certification
Experience: Acceptable DMV record as required by law

PHYSICAL AND/OR MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
· Pass pre-employment, and annual, physical examination as mandated by the State of Florida
· Sedentary work –able to work (drive bus) in a seated position over a period of time
· Visual abilities to drive, to inspect the vehicle, and to see participants and staff to ensure their safety and well-being
· Auditory and verbal abilities to give, receive and follow general instructions to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants
· Ability to operate the bus (shifting of gears, use of brakes, turning head side to side to see from all angles)
· Ability to assist passengers to load and unload, including in emergency situations
· May be subject to extreme outdoor temperatures and significant noise
