Role: Controls Engineer
Contract Length: 12 months with contract-to-hire
Location: Garland, TX, onsite 3 days/week; Occasional travel for plant tours and implementations (expenses reimbursed via invoice process)
Rate: $60β$84/hour W2, dependent on skills and qualifications
Overview:
The client is seeking a Controls Engineer to support a major enterprise initiative to standardize ERP, MES, and controls systems across five plants. The Control Engineer will focus on integration between MES and PLC/controls logic, enabling consistent and efficient manufacturing operations across extrusion, milling, and fabrication lines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, maintain, and standardize integrations between MES systems and PLC ladder logic across enterprise manufacturing sites.
- Configure and optimize controls logic for extrusion lines and other production equipment, including handling up to 300 set points passed from MES recipes to PLCs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional Agile teams, including MES and ERP developers, to deliver end-to-end solutions.
- Provide technical expertise in ladder logic programming, controls integration, and support during go-live phases.
- Participate in occasional plant tours and site support during implementations (infrequent travel).
Required Skills & Experience:
- Strong experience with PLC programming and ladder logic (Rockwell preferred, but open to other platforms).
- Proven experience integrating MES with PLC/controls systems.
- Ability to work effectively in Agile, cross-functional teams with ERP, MES, and controls engineers.
- Familiarity with controls-related tools such as Rockwell, FactoryTalk, and RSLinx.
- Knowledge of both ladder logic and at least one standard coding language (Java or equivalent) a plus.
Preferred:
- Strong problem-solving skills in high-complexity environments (e.g., many machines with unique code bases).
