What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator / Project Manager position at Hollow Contracting?
We are seeking an experienced Estimator / Project Manager to lead heavy civil and concrete projects from bid to closeout. This role is responsible for estimating, preconstruction planning, scheduling, subcontractor coordination, and full project execution. The ideal candidate understands how to win work, plan it properly, and deliver it profitably and safely.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can estimate the job, build the plan, manage the people, and finish strong.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Preconstruction
- Prepare accurate and competitive bids for heavy civil and concrete projects
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, and risk assessment
- Develop budgets, production rates, and bid strategies
- Use HeavyBid software for estimating and bid management
- Lead preconstruction meetings and job handoff from estimating to operations
- Review plans, specifications, and contract documents for scope and risk
Project Management & Execution
- Manage projects from award through closeout
- Develop and maintain project schedules, including look-ahead schedules
- Coordinate and manage all subcontractors and suppliers
- Track job costs, quantities, production, and margins
- Prepare and manage change orders, RFIs, and submittals
- Ensure compliance with contract requirements, plans, and specifications
- Work closely with field supervisors, foremen, and superintendents
- Manage billing, pay applications, and job forecasting
Leadership & Communication
- Serve as primary point of contact for owners, inspectors, engineers, and subcontractors
- Lead project meetings and coordination calls
- Enforce company standards for safety, quality, and documentation
- Provide clear direction to field crews and subcontractors
- Mentor and support field leadership when needed
Required Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in estimating and project management
- Proven experience managing heavy civil and/or concrete projects
- Strong understanding of earthwork, concrete, utilities, and civil scopes
- Experience bidding and managing jobs from start to finish
- Proficiency with HeavyBid software
- Strong knowledge of construction means and methods
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and contracts
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills
- Strong cost control and scheduling skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with DOT, municipal, or public works projects
- Experience with CPM scheduling software
- Knowledge of Davis-Bacon and prevailing wage projects
- Field experience as a foreman or superintendent

Pay: $75,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
