POSITION SUMMARY:
The Advanced Scientist participates in research and development activities linked to new product and material initiatives, using established scientific techniques. Primary area of responsibility will be in material development for air filtration, liquid filtration, and bio-separation, including the documentation and assessment of the results.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Have good verbal and written command of English & presentation skills.
- Be willing and able to conduct experimental work and analysis and have a ‘hands-on’ attitude.
- Ensure all local laws and regulations regarding chemical consumption, production and transportation are met including compliance with safety guidelines and support of Environmental Health Safety initiatives.
- Determine project goals in consultation with the global Technology team.
- Understanding the requirements associated with maintaining a good laboratory environment. Ensure that laboratory procedures and documentation comply and comply with all safety regulations.
- Support the activities of fellow Scientists and Technicians, whilst developing their technical and personal skillset to the maximum.
- Drive and support potential prototype technology and product design.
- Technology transfer of promising concepts to the Technology Development team.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance in the specific areas of polymer chemistry and media development. Be self-motivated and updated in polymer technology and analytic laboratory techniques.
- Review patent landscape and be able to identify new patent opportunities.
- Active collaboration with Technology workforce.
- Presentation to various internal audiences.
- Write-up technical reports, and preparation of training materials, Standard Operating Procedures.
- 10% travel time (other HV sites, customers and vendors, conferences, committees, training etc.).
- Drive advanced materials development programs supported by cross-functional teams from conceptual ideas to full-scale production and commercialization.
- Competitive intelligence, market survey reviews & project management with frequent updates.
- Interaction with customers, including providing technical support and validation.
- Strive for continuous improvements in product, process and add value to customers.
- Conduct Safety, Quality audits and report NCs; provide solutions to prevent future occurrences.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Material Science or related field
- B.S. or M.S. degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer or Material Science, with equivalent years of relevant work experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTS
- Work requires repetitive motion of arms/hands, standing for prolonged period, performing frequent bending and twisting motions, which may potentially result in musculoskeletal stresses.
- Steady hands and dexterity to perform tasks repeatedly and accurately.
- Ability to lift 25 lbs
- Work performed in laboratory environment with potential exposure to hazardous materials.
- Work performed in production area with potential exposure to large equipment/machinery and loud noises.
