Serves patients by greeting and assisting them, scheduling appointments, maintaining records and accounts, answering phone calls, faxing correspondence, etc.
A general Patient Service Specialist job description will include, but not limited to:
Administrative Duties (may include but not limited to):
- Reports to Office Manager
- Uses computer applications
- Answers and makes telephone calls
- Welcomes patients and visitors by greeting patients and visitors, in person or on the telephone, answering or referring inquiries.
- Keeps patient appointments on schedule by notifying provider of patient's arrival, reviewing service delivery compared to schedule, reminding provider of service delays.
- Comforts patients by anticipating patients' anxieties, answering patients' questions, maintaining the reception area.
- Ensures availability of treatment information by filing and retrieving patient records.
- Maintains patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information.
- Optimizes patients' satisfaction, provider time, and treatment room utilization by scheduling appointments in person or by telephone
- Obtains revenue by recording and updating financial information, recording and collecting patient charges, controlling credit extended to patients; filing, collecting, and expediting third-party claims.
- Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information.
- Maintains operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes.
- Handles correspondence
- Observes all HIPAA/OSHA/CMS compliance standards
- All other duties as assigned by the Practice Manager or Medical Director/Owner
Patient Service Specialist Essential Job Functions:
Work Environment- This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical Demands- This is largely a sedentary role, however, some filing and inventory management is required. This would require the ability to move files or inventory, open filing cabinets, and bend, twist or stand as necessary.
- Must be able to lift up to 30lbs
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
- The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
- Must be able to use hands/fingers to handle or feel, reach, etc. when operating office equipment
Knowledge:
Patient Service Specialist must have a knowledge of:
- Healthcare field and medical specialty
- Medical terminology
- Grammar, spelling, and punctuation
- Knowledge of EHR (preferably EPIC)
Skills:
- Exceptional customer service and phone etiquette
- Ability to maintain effective communication and organization to ensure timely patient flow
- Basic computer skills and office applications (Word, Excel, etc.)
- Ability to multitask and maintain professionalism
Education:
- High school diploma, some college preferred
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 - $20.25 per hour
