GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Transportation Manager reports directly to, and works with, the Director of Business and Finance. The Manager is responsible for the management and oversight of every aspect of the regular and special education transportation and participation in District-wide Transportation groups/committees, including payroll. The Manager is responsible for ensuring applicable federal, state, and local laws/policies are met.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works collaboratively with central office leadership, school/district administrators, and public safety personnel to ensure transportation services are delivered safely, efficiently, and effectively.
- Assist school administrators with student discipline issues on buses. Report parent, driver, and/or bus company concerns to appropriate building administrators; communicate with parents regarding student discipline issues.
- Investigate and report all incidents/accidents on school transportation vehicles. Correspond with necessary parties to address root causes of mishaps and oversee corrective measures where and when appropriate.
- Advise Director of Business and Finance, and other district leadership of issues and concerns related to Transportation.
Works with Big Bus Transportation Coordinators to:
- Collaborate in all aspects of program administration and operations oversight, including: contract administration, scheduling, routing, bus stop safety, rider registration, bus evacuation and safety programs, budgeting, account management, invoicing, and payroll.
- Assist with schedules, bus routes, and stops before the opening of school and revise as needed; continually reviewing safety concerns of stops and routes throughout the school year.
- Ensure day-to-day operations of the transportation program operate smoothly. Work with location staff to address routing and bus stop related issues and concerns raised by parents, staff, and transportation vendors in a timely manner.
- Ride buses to monitor the performance of the transportation system as warranted to gain firsthand knowledge about the routes as needed throughout the year.
- Maintain adequate, accurate, and up-to-date records of schedules, routes, stops, student assignments, accident reports, school bus records and projected transportation requirements.
Works with Training Coordinators to:
- Ensure in-service training programs are conducted on a periodic basis for personnel involved in transportation, according to policy and statute.
- Schedule twice annual bus evacuation drills and bus safety meetings for all students twice a year with the location safety staff and other appropriate personnel inside and outside of the district.
Special Education Transportation
- Communicate with Special Education staff about transportation related IEP questions/issues to ensure compliance with all Federal and State regulations.
- Review expected processes to be followed with the Special Education Director so that appropriate training regarding specialized transportation can be done with district staff.
- Establish with appropriate companies the schedules for both students with special needs, DCF and homeless students (McKinney Vento). Ensure routes meet the instructional program as well as federal, state, and local requirements.
- Collaborate with the Special Education Director to understand the out of distinct and extended school year needs.
- Review applicants, assist with onboarding and payroll as needed.
General Operations
- Assist the Director of Business and Finance in the development of Transportation budgets and policy.
- Write, interpret and enforce the provisions set forth in the specifications and contracts for school transportation.
- Represent the District in matters and at meetings concerning transportation, as needed.
- Strive for continual quality improvement of all transportation related services.
- Assist Business and Finance Director in preparing reports concerning transportation, including state reports.
- Implement a comprehensive program of public relations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent, Associate’s Degree preferred
- Five years of scheduling and coordination experience in the transportation field; or any equivalent combination
- Experience supervising and evaluating employees particularly drivers
- CDL license preferred
- CDL trainer certification preferred
- Air brake endorsement preferred
- Approved CORI and Safis/Fingerprint background checks
Anticipated Salary: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00
