Duties
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to evaluate substance use history, mental health status, and overall treatment needs
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans incorporating psychotherapy, behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing techniques
- Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions focused on addiction recovery, mental health management, and relapse prevention
- Provide crisis intervention and manage emergency situations with sensitivity and professionalism
- Coordinate care with families, community resources, hospitals, and other healthcare providers to ensure holistic support
- Maintain accurate medical documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations, including progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge summaries
- Conduct diagnostic evaluations using ICD-9/ICD-10 coding systems for proper diagnosis documentation
- Engage in data collection and research activities to improve treatment outcomes and program effectiveness
- Manage case loads efficiently through case management practices, including intake assessments and ongoing patient care planning
- Apply knowledge of medical terminology and behavioral health concepts to support patient care and documentation
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field; licensure or certification as required by state law for addiction counseling or clinical practice
- Proven experience in addiction counseling, behavioral health, or mental health services with a focus on substance abuse recovery
- Strong skills in psychotherapy modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and applied behavior analysis (ABA)
- Expertise in motivational interviewing, crisis management, and group therapy facilitation
- Familiarity with medical records systems, CPT coding (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD coding systems (ICD-9/ICD-10), and HIPAA compliance standards
- Knowledge of addiction medicine principles, trauma-informed care including PTSD management, and family/couple counseling techniques
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build rapport quickly with diverse populations
- Ability to handle crisis situations effectively while maintaining professionalism and empathy
- Home & community care experience is preferred; hospital experience is a plus
