Position Summary
The Seasonal Maintenance and Property Upkeep Worker assists with the general care, cleaning, appearance, and upkeep of hotel guest rooms and public areas. This position performs basic maintenance, painting, carpet cleaning, furniture touch-ups, small-appliance cleaning, lightbulb replacement, general janitorial work, and other seasonal improvement projects.
The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, able to work independently, and committed to keeping the hotel clean, safe, attractive, and guest-ready.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesGuest Room Upkeep
- Complete scheduled guest-room maintenance and improvement projects.
- Prepare surfaces and perform minor interior painting and touch-ups.
- Touch up wood furniture, doors, trim, cabinets, and other finished surfaces.
- Clean guest-room carpets using approved carpet-cleaning equipment.
- Spot-clean stains on carpets, upholstery, walls, and other surfaces.
- Replace burned-out or damaged lightbulbs with the correct approved bulb.
- Clean lamps, light fixtures, shades, vents, baseboards, and other detailed areas.
- Clean and sanitize small appliances, including refrigerators, microwaves, coffee makers, hair dryers, irons, and other guest-room equipment.
- Clean behind and underneath furniture and appliances.
- Tighten loose handles, knobs, hinges, toilet seats, and other basic hardware.
- Assist with replacing shower curtains, caulking, filters, batteries, and other routine guest-room items when trained and assigned.
- Report damaged furniture, appliances, plumbing fixtures, electrical concerns, or other repair needs to management.
- Ensure guest rooms are left clean, organized, and ready for inspection after work is completed.
Painting and Surface Care
- Protect floors, furniture, fixtures, and guest-room equipment before beginning painting projects.
- Patch small nail holes, marks, and minor wall damage.
- Apply paint neatly and consistently to walls, doors, trim, and other approved areas.
- Properly clean, organize, and store painting supplies after each use.
- Follow management instructions regarding approved paint colors, finishes, and project areas.
- Place appropriate signs or barriers around active work areas.
Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning
- Vacuum and prepare carpets before cleaning.
- Operate carpet extractors and other approved cleaning equipment safely.
- Treat stains using approved hotel chemicals and procedures.
- Clean guest-room, hallway, stairwell, meeting-room, and public-area carpets as assigned.
- Allow adequate drying time and use wet-floor or caution signs when necessary.
- Clean and properly store carpet-cleaning equipment after use.
- Report permanent stains, damaged carpeting, or trip hazards to management.
General Janitorial Duties
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and clean floors throughout the property.
- Clean hallways, stairwells, elevators, entrances, storage rooms, and employee areas.
- Clean and disinfect public and employee restrooms.
- Empty trash and recycling containers and replace liners.
- Clean windows, mirrors, glass doors, walls, baseboards, and high-touch surfaces.
- Remove litter and debris from hotel entrances and exterior areas.
- Keep maintenance rooms, storage areas, housekeeping closets, and work areas clean and organized.
- Assist with deep-cleaning projects throughout the hotel.
- Help housekeeping staff with linen removal, trash removal, room stripping, or other duties when directed.
