Overview
The Assistant Operations Manager supports the General Manager in maintaining daily hotel operations while also serving as the primary on-site leader responsible for assisting with staffing coverage when needed.

Staff call-outs and scheduling adjustments are a normal part of hotel operations, and this role plays a critical part in helping ensure that operational coverage does not fall solely on the General Manager.

When staffing coverage is required, the Assistant Hotel Operations Manager must be comfortable stepping into operational roles temporarily to support the team and maintain service levels.

When staffing coverage is not required, the Assistant Operations Manager will focus on overseeing operational tasks, supporting staff, and ensuring hotel standards are maintained throughout the property.

This position requires someone who is flexible, hands-on, and willing to step in when operational coverage is needed.

Key Responsibilities

Staffing Coverage & Operational Support

  • Assist with resolving staff call-outs and unexpected coverage gaps
  • Help coordinate shift swaps or staffing adjustments when needed
  • Step into operational roles temporarily if necessary to maintain service
  • Ensure hotel operations continue smoothly when staffing challenges arise
  • Serve as the on-site leader responsible for stabilizing operations during staffing shortages

Operational Oversight (When Coverage Is Not Required)

When staffing coverage is not needed, the Assistant Operations Manager will focus on maintaining smooth hotel operations by:

  • Conducting regular property walkthroughs inside and outside the hotel
  • Ensuring public areas remain clean, organized, and guest-ready
  • Monitoring daily arrivals, departures, and occupancy levels
  • Communicating with staff regarding operational issues during their shift
  • Ensuring team members complete assigned tasks and follow procedures

Housekeeping Coordination

  • Communicate with housekeeping to ensure rooms are ready on time
  • Support housekeeping and laundry operations as needed to ensure efficient room turnover and maintain cleanliness standards.
  • Assist with prioritizing rooms during high occupancy periods
  • Conduct occasional room inspections
  • Monitor linen inventory and ensure proper handling of stained linens

Inventory & Supply Oversight

  • Monitor breakfast inventory and hotel supplies
  • Communicate inventory needs to management
  • Coordinate with inventory staff to prepare for busy periods or high occupancy weekends

Guest Experience

  • Assist with guest check-ins during busy periods if needed
  • Address guest concerns and help resolve service issues
  • Provide service recovery when appropriate
  • Review guest feedback and communicate recurring issues to management

Qualifications

Preferred qualifications:

  • Previous hotel or hospitality experience preferred
  • Supervisory or leadership experience is a plus
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in fast-paced situations
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Comfortable assisting in multiple departments when needed

Pay: $18.00 - $19.00 per hour

Expected hours: 32.0 – 40.0 per week
