Holbrook Service is seeking an experienced Senior Controls Technician to join our Controls team in Utah. This is a journeyman-level position requiring a minimum of five years of hands-on controls installation and service experience and at least five years of direct Alerton experience. Verifiable Alerton training/certification documentation is required.

The ideal candidate can independently troubleshoot and commission complex BAS systems, work confidently in Alerton Compass and Ascent, and serve as a senior technical resource who can train less-experienced technicians while following and reinforcing Holbrook Controls standards.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Install, start up, troubleshoot, service, and commission commercial and industrial building automation systems.
• Troubleshoot Alerton controllers, field devices, communication networks, databases, graphics, alarms, and histories using Compass and Ascent.
• Perform point-to-point checkout, functional testing, sequence verification, controller replacement, device integration, and system startup.
• Troubleshoot BACnet/IP, BACnet MS/TP, Modbus TCP/RTU, IP networking, and other common BAS communication issues.
• Diagnose low-voltage control issues involving relays, sensors, actuators, transducers, VFD interfaces, and controller I/O.
• Read and interpret control drawings, wiring diagrams, mechanical plans, points lists, sequences of operation, and equipment documentation.
• Work with HVAC systems including AHUs, RTUs, VAVs, boilers, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, humidification systems, and related equipment.
• Perform programming, logic troubleshooting, database work, graphic modifications, and Niagara/JACE support when qualified and required.
• Take ownership of service calls and project issues from initial diagnosis through resolution, testing, documentation, and customer communication.
• Train and mentor less-experienced Controls technicians in installation, troubleshooting, commissioning, software use, documentation, and Holbrook standards.
• Travel primarily throughout Utah Valley and the Wasatch Front, with occasional work in southern Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho.

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum of five years of hands-on building automation and controls experience in installation, service, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
• Minimum of five years of direct, hands-on Alerton experience. This requirement is mandatory.
• Verifiable Alerton training/certification documentation. Certificate or training records must be provided.
• Strong working knowledge of Alerton Compass and Alerton Ascent.
• Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot and commission commercial BAS systems and resolve field, network, and software-related issues.
• Strong knowledge of BACnet/IP and BACnet MS/TP, including addressing, discovery, communication faults, and integration.
• Working knowledge of IP networking, including static addressing, subnet masks, gateways, switches, VLAN concepts, and basic diagnostics.
• Ability to read control schematics and understand commercial HVAC operation, sequences, and system interactions.
• Experience with low-voltage electrical troubleshooting and safe use of standard controls diagnostic tools.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record and ability to travel as required.
• Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds, work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, data centers, construction sites, and varying weather conditions, and pass applicable background, driving-record, and drug-screening requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong Alerton programming experience, including controller programming, logic modification, database development, graphics, alarms, histories, and optimization.
• Niagara 4 certification(s) and hands-on experience with Niagara Workbench, JACE commissioning, integration, troubleshooting, and programming.
• Experience integrating third-party equipment using BACnet, Modbus, and other common building automation communication protocols.
• Experience with BAS graphics, databases, trends, alarm strategies, naming standards, backups, and commissioning documentation.
• Experience with mission-critical facilities, data centers, central plants, or additional BAS platforms such as Trane Tracer, Carrier i-Vu, or Johnson Controls Metasys.
• Experience leading controls projects, supporting field teams, training or mentoring junior technicians, and/or OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.

Position Expectations:

This is not an entry-level position. Candidates must have verifiable Alerton experience and be capable of independently troubleshooting and commissioning complex controls systems. The successful candidate should also be comfortable serving as a senior technical resource and helping ensure Holbrook Controls standards are followed consistently. Compensation is DOE, with a competitive salary based on experience and qualifications.

Pay: $33.00 - $42.00 per hour
