Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with ASD, ensuring alignment with their specific learning goals and needs.
- Create a structured and nurturing classroom environment that fosters positive behavior and social interactions.
- Utilize a variety of teaching strategies and resources to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
- Monitor and assess student progress regularly, providing feedback and support to promote growth and development.
- Collaborate with special education staff, therapists, and other educators to ensure a cohesive approach to student learning.
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians, providing updates on student progress and involving them in the educational process.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in ASD education and special education.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and behavior, ensuring compliance with school policies and regulations.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom culture that encourages respect, empathy, and understanding among all students.
- Support students in developing social skills and coping strategies to navigate challenges related to ASD.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Valid teaching certification or license in Special Education with a focus on Autism Spectrum Disorder or willing to get ASD certification w/in 3 years.
- Experience working with students with ASD in an educational setting is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of autism spectrum disorders and effective teaching strategies for students with diverse needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, families, and colleagues.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with students with special needs.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Knowledge of current educational technologies and tools to enhance learning experiences.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying informed about advancements in special education.
