Position Overview
J&K General Contractor, Inc., is seeking an experienced Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with a strong background in general contracting or construction industry finance. This role is responsible for overseeing all accounting, financial reporting, compliance, and analytical functions that support sound financial management of ongoing construction projects and overall company operations. The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of construction accounting principles, job costing, WIP schedules, contract billing, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, analyze, and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Maintain accurate general ledger accounts, reconciling discrepancies and ensuring timely closings.
- Manage work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, and cost forecasting.
- Oversee project-specific financials, including job cost analysis, budget-to-actual reporting, and profitability tracking.
- Administer construction-specific accounting processes such as AIA billing, change order tracking, pay applications, lien releases, retainage management, and subcontractor payment approvals.
- Support project managers with financial insights and ensure alignment between project budgets and actual performance.
- Monitor job costs, labor costs, equipment usage, overhead allocation, and cost codes to ensure accurate cost control.
- Assist with estimating and bidding by providing historical cost data and financial risk analysis.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, state and federal tax laws, and construction-industry accounting standards.
- Prepare and assist with external audits, bonding reviews, insurance audits, and lender reporting.
- Manage tax planning, filings, and representation as needed.
- Oversee cash flow forecasting, banking relationships, credit line usage, and capital expenditures.
- Manage AP/AR cycles, including subcontractor payments, customer invoicing, and collections.
- Implement and optimize accounting software tools (e.g., Sage 100/300, Viewpoint, Procore, QuickBooks Contractor Edition).
- Develop and refine internal controls, accounting policies, and reporting processes.
- Train accounting and project staff on best practices for financial accuracy and compliance.
Qualifications
Required
- Active CPA license.
- 3–7 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in general contracting or construction.
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting, job costing, contract structures, and WIP reporting.
- Proficiency in construction accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
- Understanding of AIA billing, retainage, and construction contract compliance requirements.
Preferred
- Experience working with project management teams and cross-functional operations.
- Experience with public works projects, prevailing wage reporting, or certified payroll.
- Familiarity with bonding requirements and contractor financial statements.
