JUNIOR STEEL ESTIMATOR
Job Summary
Fineline Steel Fabrication has an immediate opening for a Junior Steel Estimator to work at our steel fabrication facility. This position supports the estimating team by assisting in the preparation of material, labor, and cost estimates for structural steel projects.
The Junior Estimator will review drawings, specifications, and bid documents while learning to develop accurate and detailed estimates under the guidance of senior estimators. This role is ideal for someone looking to grow their career in structural steel estimating and fabrication. Training will be provided.
This is a full-time position. Overtime may be required as needed. Candidates must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test, background check, and have reliable transportation to and from work.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in reviewing drawings, specifications, and bid instructions for steel fabrication projects
Support senior estimators in preparing time, material, labor, and cost estimates
Perform quantity takeoffs for structural steel and miscellaneous metals
Gather pricing information from vendors and subcontractors for materials and services
Input estimating data into estimating software and spreadsheets
Help maintain organized and accurate estimate documentation
Respond to requests from field personnel and project teams in a timely manner
Participate in estimate reviews and revisions as directed
Develop an understanding of project scope, fabrication processes, and estimating best practices
Qualifications
Basic understanding of structural steel fabrication or construction preferred
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents (training provided)
Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Proficient in basic computer applications (Excel, email, PDF tools)
Preferred exposure to estimating or modeling software such as Tekla or Stack
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
Spanish bilingual is a plus
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check
Related Safety Responsibilities
Must become familiar with and comply with Fineline Steel Fabrication’s safety program and OSHA regulations. Must understand and follow all equipment safety requirements and remain vigilant regarding personal safety and the safety of others in the workplace.
