Job Summary
The Fabrication Estimator applies and maintains estimating objectives for Hoffmann’s Fabrication facility as directed by the Director of Estimating. Knowledge of steel fabrication and general machining concepts, practices and procedures preferred. This position requires a self-directed and assertive individual with excellent mathematical ability, verbal, and written communication skills.
Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must accurately read blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications and demonstrate organizational skills. This role will primarily review bid documents, RFP’s, project specifications, and drawings to determine the scope of the project and prepare estimates. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- To achieve all project goals, the Estimator must adhere to specification compliance, material selection, quality, and safety specifications.
- Ability to communicate and interact with Vendors, Subcontractors, and Project Managers.
- Work closely with the Company’s Fabrication Facility Manager, Project Manager(s), and Procurement Manager for resource availability.
- Prepare project summaries, proposal documents, and other reports to communicate estimate details and specifications to Hoffmann Management.
- Manage bid software platforms/spreadsheets.
Skills and Knowledge
- Associates degree in applicable profession, business or technical discipline or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- One to three years of applicable experience preferred
- Show excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work as a member of a team.
- General knowledge of current shop equipment, capabilities, and capacity
- To evaluate bid documents, project drawings, and details with accuracy and recognize and communicate discrepancies.
- General knowledge of our fabrication process.
- General knowledge of various steel types, weights, and measurements to learn the Company’s capabilities and QAQC standards.
- Ability to provide material lists and solicit material pricing.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects while continuing to meet project deadlines, exceptional problem solving, analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required.
- Ability to work in Microsoft products and specific estimating related computer software programs.
- Ability to read and understand project layout and equipment drawings.
- Excellent work ethic, professionalism, and growth mindset required.
Physical Demands/ Working Conditions
- General office conditions with occasional site visits. Throughout any day, you must be able to stand, walk, sit, and regularly talk and listen.
- Position may require additional hours beyond 40 hours
- Flexibility and ability to travel when needed
- Diverse conditions are possible when at client sites. Exposure to dirty, dusty, and extreme weather conditions
Pay: From $60,000.00 per year
