Seasonal | 20–40 hours/week | Monday–Friday
Our Gymnastics Summer Camp Counselors bring together the best of two worlds—teaching preschool and school-age gymnastics while helping deliver the magic of a traditional summer camp experience. Counselors create a positive, safe, engaging, and progressive environment where every child feels supported, challenged, and excited to grow.

Essential Functions
Safety & Child Protection
- Follows all YMCA child protection guidelines
- Maintains accurate camper attendance through periodic face checks
- Refrains from cell phone use while supervising campers
Gymnastics Instruction
- Follows progressive lesson plans designed for preschool and school-age participants
- Actively participates in all instructional components, including stretching, circuits, spotting, and conditioning
- Ensures participants feel supported and challenged in a safe learning environment
Camp Experience & Engagement
- Participates fully in all traditional camp elements, such as camper’s choice, games, songs, swimming, and themed activities
- Helps prepare crafts, dances, or other program elements as needed
- Tracks events and contributes to daily camp operations
Culture & Leadership
- Serves as a role model for campers, demonstrating enthusiasm, kindness, and the YMCA core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring
- Builds positive relationships with campers, families, and staff
- Contributes to a welcoming and supportive branch and department culture
- Attends all scheduled staff meetings and required trainings
Facility & Equipment
- Helps maintain a clean, safe gym environment
- Reports any equipment or facility concerns promptly to the supervisor
Daily Preparedness
- Arrives ready for each camp day with a staff shirt, swimsuit, towel, and—most importantly—a smile
- Gymnastics experience (as a gymnast, coach, or instructor)
- Enjoys working with children and fostering a positive camp experience
- First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain within 90 days
- Ability to safely spot gymnasts during skills and progressions
- Minimum age: 16
- Strong communication skills with staff, campers, and caregivers
- Friendly, outgoing, and engaging instructor style
