Occupational Therapist in Outpatient Clinic setting, Part-Time 24 hours per pay.

JOB SUMMARY

To provide, under the general supervision of the Rehabilitation Services Director and according to established policies and procedures of the department, diagnostic evaluations and treatment to assigned patients, to help patients reach maximum performance level, and to use these skills to the fullest to function in the community within the limits of their capabilities.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate of accredited occupational therapy program with bachelor's degree or master's degree.
  • One year of experience preferred.
  • Current Occupational Therapist license to practice in Ohio.

  • Adheres to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and DNV standards and/or standards from other accrediting bodies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides practice in functional, therapeutic, prevocational, vocational, and homemaking skills, and activities of daily living, based on findings from a formal evaluation/assessment by the OTR/L and approved by the referring physician/designee.
  • Coordinates participation in sensorimotor, educational, recreational and social activities designed to help patients develop or regain physical or mental functioning or adjust to disabilities.
  • Consults with other members of rehabilitation team to select activity program consistent with needs and capabilities of individual and to coordinate occupational therapy with other therapeutic activities, such as physical and/or speech therapy.
  • Selects constructive activities suited to individual's physical capacity, intelligence level, and interest to upgrade individual to maximum independence, prepare individual for return to employment, assists in restoration of functions, and aid in adjustment to disability.
  • Teaches individuals skills and techniques required to participate in therapeutic activities and then evaluates individual's progress and adjusts the plan of care to the patient's tolerance/abilities.
  • Designs and constructs special equipment for individual and suggests adaptation of individual's work-living environment.
  • If assigned to school contract setting, the therapist has the skills and abilities to work with children, to teach their parents’ home exercise/techniques and to participate on an interdisciplinary team to develop an IEP for the student. The therapist will also demonstrate the ability to share this information and treatment programs through delegation to a C.O.T.A.
  • Other duties as assigned.

FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS

Working Conditions and Physical Environment

  • Works in a patient care setting where there is potential exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials; and electrical, fire, chemical, physical contact and equipment hazards.
  • Fast-paced setting with rapid patient turnover.
  • High patient traffic.
  • Close-quartered and shared workspace.
  • Sufficient mobility to negotiate physical plant.
  • Strength and endurance sufficient enough to perform physically for long periods of time without sitting (four to eight hours). May include walking; lifting 25 – 50lbs with or without assistance; bending; twisting; standing; sitting; reaching; stair-climbing and descending.
  • Physical dexterity and psychomotor skills to respond adequately and appropriately to routine and emergency patient care needs in an ambulatory setting.
  • Visual and auditory capabilities sufficient to read information and respond to patient care needs.
  • Ability to work in a computerized environment that includes prolonged sitting and use of keyboard, mouse, and monitor.
  • Cognitive ability to accurately observe, analyze, and interpret general and technical data both verbal and written to accurately communicate this information.
