    Requirements and Qualifications:

    • Minimum of a Master's Degree
    • New Jersey School Psychologist endorsement, LDTC Endorsment, School Social Worker Endorsement
    • Familiar with current testing instruments and NJ Special Education Code
    • Clear criminal history background check
    • Proof of US citizenship or legal resident alien status

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Working with students, school personnel, parents and others:

    • To serve as a consultant to school personnel in dealing with matters pertaining to the learning and social emotional adjustment of children.
    • To provide assessment, consultation, and/or intervention in order to help students meet their educational goals.
    • To serve as a member of the Child Study Team assisting in the identification, diagnosis, classification and development of appropriate programs for all students with disabilities pursuant to N.J.A.C. 6A:14.
    • Administer standardized functions and informal assessments linked to curriculum and instruction, behavior, and cognitive aptitude of students. Identify children with specific needs and report results in a written format. Interpret results so that relevant programming can be provided.
    • Establish and maintain adequate records of student progress in essential instructional areas and related support services.
    • Assume an active, cooperative role on the Child Study Team responding to referrals from Intervention and Referral Services Committee and parents as applicable.
    • Utilize data from multiple sources to create data-driven decisions regarding student’s needs/programming, and to ensure compliance with Least Restrictive Environment mandates as specified in N.J.A.C 6A:14.
    • Assist in development and implementation of strategies for school personnel to promote social/or emotional adjustment in the school setting, and help school personnel to understand the etiology of learning and behavior, particularly for exceptional children who may require special education.
    • Work closely with parents, guardians, and extended families to promote a harmonious relationship between home and school.
    • Regularly observe and/or work with the students on caseload in accordance with the students’ documented needs and case management.
    • Maintain professional competence through in-service educational activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth opportunities. Share knowledge gained, as appropriate, with peers and colleagues.
    • Follow mandated procedures and timelines in accordance with N.J.A.C 6A:14 in the evaluation process.
    • Maintain the confidential records of students and ensure they are kept in a secure location.
    • Provide professional case management including monitoring and evaluating the education program for assigned students.
    • Provide counseling to students.
    • Develop individualized education plans (IEPs) for those children requiring special education assistance.
    • Participate in educational planning and scheduling.
    • Serve as a consultant to school personnel and parents to deal with learning and adjustment problems of students.
    • Coordinate transition planning, which includes vocational, work or college planning for students 14 years old or older.
    • Assist students with problems that affect their adjustment in school.
    • Assure compliance with state and federal laws, regulation, policies and procedures.
    • Maintain close liaison with agencies and specialized professions who may have occasion to deal with the educational or adjustment problems of students.
    • Consult with teachers in designing intervention plans, make recommendations for resolving problems of individual students, and provide remediation (e.g. counseling, behavior management).
    • Communicate information on the student’s program and progress to the teacher, principal, parent/guardian.
    • May provide consultation and training to educational staff regarding techniques, materials, and programs to address academic and/or behavioral needs.
    • Identify and report child abuse and neglect situations.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education, Supervisor of Special Education and Building Adminstration

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Maintain productive relationships with parents and other staff members
    • Maintain records of students' progress
    • Maintain professional competence and pursue continuous improvement through in-service education and other professional growth activities
    • Participate in school-level planning, faculty meetings/committees, and other school system groups
    • Make effective use of community engagement

    • Assume other related duties/assignments assigned by the Superintendent or Director of Special Services.
