Responsibilities
- Assigns and participates in sweeping, dusting, waxing, mopping, and scrubbing; washing windows, walls, floors, furniture, and other equipment in and around school buildings and grounds; consult with Principal and Director of Facilities on special needs
- Inspects school buildings to ensure that they are adequately cleaned and maintained
- Trains, instructs, and evaluates subordinate worker in proper methods and procedures of custodial work
- Evaluates and assists in the selection of new cleaning products, equipment, and materials
- Ensures that ample cleaning supplies are available; orders supplies as needed
- Maintains inventory, general custodial reports and ledgers, and time records
- Perform minor emergency service or cleaning services as necessary
- Schedules custodians for non-school hours when building use has been authorized
- Performs minors electrical service and preventive HVAC maintenance, to include changing filters, lighting pilot lights, and draining pipes
- Locks and unlocks school buildings and assists with security of school building; changes, repairs, or replaces all school combination locks
- Activates safety alarm for fire drill exercises
- Raises and lowers flags
- Does painting as required
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements And Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or GED or equivalent
- Operating Boiler License
- Two years of experience in a custodial position preferred, or any equivalent combination of acceptable experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills:
- Thorough knowledge of cleaning materials, equipment, and procedures.
- Ability to lead and direct the work of subordinate employees.
- Ability to perform the tasks of all subordinate employees.
- Ability to prepare and maintain necessary records.
- Ability to comply with established safety rules and regulations.
- Ability to operate equipment such as a vacuum, shampooer, buffer, push, lawn, mower, weed-eater, riding mower, or tractor, snow blower, small snow plow.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time, lift heavy objects weighing up to 100 pounds, bend, reach, talk, hear, stoop, kneel, walk, and see.
- Satisfactory physical condition so as to be able to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strength
- Education or practical experience in school or plant maintenance, or the skilled trades
- Criminal history background check
- Proof of US citizenship or legal resident alien status
