Position Overview:
This is a non-traveling, in-house role. While occasional assistance with off-site projects may be appreciated, our primary need is for someone who will be a consistent, full-time presence on our shop floor. The In-House Machine Builder is responsible for assembling, installing, and testing custom automated machinery used in manufacturing and production processes. This role involves interpreting technical drawings, integrating mechanical and electrical components, and ensuring machines meet performance and safety standards.
What You’ll Do:
- Assemble complex machinery from blueprints and technical drawings
- Work with mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
- Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and fellow builders
- Ensure machines meet quality and performance standards
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues during assembly
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Willing to train and guide others
Key Responsibilities
- Machine Assembly & Integration
- Assemble mechanical components and automation systems according to engineered blueprints.
- Install electrical wiring, pneumatic systems, and robotic components.
- Testing & Calibration
- Inspect and test machines to ensure proper functionality and compliance with specifications.
- Calibrate sensors, actuators, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
- Troubleshooting & Maintenance
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and software issues during build and testing phases.
- Perform preventive maintenance on in-house machines.
- Collaboration
- Work closely with design engineers to refine machine concepts and resolve build challenges.
- Provide feedback for design improvements and cost optimization.
- Documentation
- Maintain detailed records of assembly processes, modifications, and repairs.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Technical Expertise
- Strong knowledge of mechanical assembly and electrical systems.
- Familiarity with PLCs, robotics, and automation technologies.
- Education
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering preferred.
- Experience
- 2 years in machine building or industrial automation.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
- Strong problem-solving and teamwork skills.
- Minimum of 5 years in machine building or a closely related field
- Proficiency in mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems; blueprint reading; and complex assembly
- Ability to lift heavy components and work on your feet for extended periods
- Attention to Detail: Precision in assembly and quality assurance
- Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose and fix issues independently
- Team Player: Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset
