Overview
The Director of Operations provides leadership and oversight of the organization’s internal systems, infrastructure, and day-to-day operations. This role ensures strong operational practices across finance, human resources, compliance, and organizational systems so programs can focus on delivering meaningful impact for children, families, and communities.
Working closely with the Executive Director, the Director of Operations translates vision into clear systems, processes, and operational excellence that support staff, strengthen accountability, and sustain organizational growth.
What you'll lead
- A strong operational infrastructure across systems, policies, and procedures that supports efficiency, accountability, and transparency across the organization.
- Organizational compliance across federal, state, and local regulations, including governance documentation, operational policies, and risk management practices.
- Financial operations in partnership with leadership and finance staff, including budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, internal controls, purchasing procedures, and fiscal accountability.
- Grant compliance and reporting processes, including coordination of audits, funder requirements, and financial reporting systems.
- Human resources systems across recruitment, hiring, onboarding, staff policies, and day-to-day personnel operations.
- Performance management and staff development systems that support growth, accountability, and strong supervision practices.
- Workplace systems that promote staff wellness, equity, retention, and a people-centered organizational culture grounded in shared values.
- Operational alignment across programs to ensure teams have the structure, tools, and support needed to deliver high-quality services.
- Cross-department coordination that strengthens communication, removes barriers, and improves program effectiveness and staff capacity.
- Leadership partnership as a core member of the leadership team, translating strategic priorities into clear operational plans and execution.
- Operational planning that supports organizational growth, sustainability, scaling, and long-term capacity building.
- Collaborative relationships with community partners and service providers to ensure operations support culturally responsive programming and strong community impact.
- Serve as a key partner to the Executive Director in supporting governance functions, including participation in board meetings and preparation of operational updates and reports
- Lead and support internal committees and cross-functional workgroups to advance organizational priorities and strengthen coordination
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, education, public administration, business administration, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- 3 years of operations, management, or leadership experience in nonprofit or mission-driven organizations
- Strong understanding of nonprofit compliance, governance, and funding systems
- Knowledge of early childhood education principles and practices
- Experience working with families and engaging diverse communities
- Experience with HR systems, financial operations, and organizational development
- Strong systems thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- A collaborative leadership style with strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and community-centered work
- Ability to translate strategic direction into clear operational systems and workflows
- Bilingual in Hmong and English is preferred
