Hladik, Onorato & Federman LLP, a respected multi-state default servicing and creditors’ rights law firm, is seeking an experienced Default Paralegal to join our New York team. This role supports our high-volume foreclosure practice and requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with the foreclosure process in New York.
Position Overview
The Default Paralegal will work closely with attorneys and support staff to manage foreclosure cases from intake through judgment and sale. The ideal candidate has prior experience in default servicing, foreclosure litigation, or creditors’ rights and thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and organize foreclosure pleadings, motions, affidavits, and exhibits
- Manage case milestones in the firm’s case management system (CaseAware experience a plus)
- Coordinate service of process and track deadlines for filings, responses, and court requirements
- Conduct SCRA checks, verify title reports, and confirm compliance with investor/agency guidelines
- Communicate with clients, courts, process servers, and internal team members
- Ensure all documents meet New York court standards and client/investor requirements (FNMA, Freddie Mac, FHA/HUD, VA, USDA)
- Support attorneys with document drafting, hearing preparation, and case status updates
- Maintain file accuracy and audit readiness through consistent QC
Qualifications
- 2 years’ experience in foreclosure, default servicing, or creditors’ rights (NY experience strongly preferred)
- Working knowledge of New York foreclosure procedures and NYSCEF filing
- Strong organizational, time-management, and communication skills
- Ability to handle high-volume workflow with precision and professionalism
- Experience with CaseAware or similar case management platforms preferred
- Familiarity with investor/agency guidelines (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, USDA) is a plus
Pay: $52,632.46 - $63,385.32 per year
