Overview
HKS is pleased to offer a two-week immersive High School Summer Shadow Program in our Dallas headquarters. This experience is designed to introduce students to the field of architecture and interior design through hands on exposure, mentorship, and learning.
Unlike a traditional internship, this program pairs each student with a dedicated practice team while also providing daily learning sessions across multiple disciplines within the firm. Students will gain insight into the full design process, from concept through delivery, while experiencing the collaborative nature of a global design practice.

This high school shadowing program is intended solely for current high school students interested in exploring careers in architecture. It is an educational and observational experience only and is not a paid position. Participants will not perform billable work and are not considered employees of the firm.

Responsibilities

Participants Will
- Shadow a design team within one of HKS’s practice areas
- Attend daily learning modules across disciplines such as design, sustainability, technical resources, and marketing
- Gain exposure to real projects and studio culture
- Participate in a collaborative capstone project
- Present their work to HKS Dallas employees at the conclusion of the program
- This program is designed to provide a meaningful and engaging introduction to the profession while building confidence, curiosity, and connection
- Maintain regular communication with assigned mentor and program leads
- Demonstrate professionalism, respect, and curiosity in a workplace setting
- Actively participate in studio activities and learning sessions
- Complete and present a capstone project at the end of the program
- Engage collaboratively with peers and mentors
- Uphold appropriate workplace behavior, including responsible use of technology
Qualifications
- Current high school student in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex
- Demonstrated interest in architecture, interior design, or the built environment
- Minimum 3.0 GPA preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Curiosity, initiative, and willingness to learn
