POSITION ACCOUNTABLE TO: Waste Treatment Lead/Chemical Lab Manager
POSITION TYPE: Full Time, Hourly (Non-Exempt)
JOB SUMMARY: The Waste Treatment Technician, Level II is responsible for assisting the Waste Treatment Lead in the day-to-day operations as they relate to Hazardous Waste and the waste treatment system. They shall include assisting in the preparations, transportations, collections and disposing of all Hazardous Materials at Hixson Metal Finishing. The Waste Treatment Technician, Level II shall assist the Waste Treatment Lead in collecting and maintaining data as it relates to Hazardous Waste Management.
The Waste Treatment Technician, Level II shall assist the Waste Treatment Lead in the day-to-day operations, maintenance and record keeping associated with the waste treatment system. This may be achieved either through on the job training comprising of 1 year of experience operating a wastewater pre-treatment system or via certification.
The Waste Treatment Technician, Level II shall assist the Waste Treatment Lead in the supervision and training of all Level I Waste Treatment Technicians.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Collects, prepares, and transports hazardous waste materials in a manner that complies with city, state, and federal operating regulations.
o Calibrates the wastewater system equipment as needed (PH/ORP meters).
o Maintains production tanks for new makeups, additions, and regular maintenance.
o Updates and maintains tank labels in partnership with the Chemical Lab Technician.
o Organizes, inspects, and maintains the chemical storage areas.
o Manages in house chemical inventory.
o Accurately receives chemical deliveries.
o Inspects, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs equipment and systems involved in wastewater treatment and associated processes.
o Maintains accurate work records and prepares reports as needed for environmental and safety related reporting.
o Transports chemicals throughout the facility using a forklift.
o Shall assist the Waste Treatment Lead in the implementation and maintenance of the Floor Management Program.
o Shall assist the Waste treatment Lead in the supervision and training of all Level I Waste Treatment Technicians
o Collects and analyzes wastewater samples to determine compliance with discharge requirements.
o Shall assist the EHS Manager, as directed by the Waste Treatment Lead, in the creation of policies and procedures as it relates to the operation and maintenance of the waste treatment system as well as policies and procedures to maintain compliance with local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
o Principles of wastewater, water reclamation, and related treatment processes.
o Principles of operation of pumps, motors, valves, and associated equipment.
o Remain up to date on pertinent federal and state laws/regulations pertaining to wastewater treatment including a knowledge of what constitutes a violation, etc.
o Wastewater sampling and testing procedures.
o Understands and follows oral and written instructions.
o Read, write, and speak English at a level necessary for satisfactory job performance.
o This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). PREFERRED SKILLS:
o Active HAZWOPER training certificate.
EDUCATION / WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
o High school diploma or equivalent.
o At least 1 year of experience working in a wastewater treatment facility.
