What are the responsibilities and job description for the Appliance Technician position at Hive Appliance?
Job Summary
This is VERY UNIQUE type of Appliance Technician job. This does involve house-calls similar to most appliance tech jobs, but this also involves repairing appliances in our shop! We are a scratch and dent appliance store.
The job is closer to about 80% or so of your time in the shop, the remainder of the time will be out in the field, primarily fixing our appliances that we have sold to customers. The can include other appliances not sold by us as well.
This is a physical job. You will be required to assist in unloading appliances from trucks, using an appliance dolly. On average this takes about 1-2 hours, and only occurs about three times per month.
From there, you will work with our store operator in hooking up and testing/diagnosing the appliances. The appliances that work are put on to the show floor. Those that don't work need to be diagnosed, and fixed so they can be put on the floor.
About once per week you will also be asked to take a break from tech-work being your primary job, and work on the sales floor, selling appliances! Because of this, you are also included into the bonus pool for sales, which is not included in your normal salary.
Although not currently in place, you may be asked in the future to join another employee in the delivery and installation of appliances into a customer's home.
You must have experience working as an Appliance Technician for a company that sent you out on service calls into customer's homes.
Must have a clean background.
Skills
- Strong understanding of schematics, electrical work, refrigeration systems, HVAC principles, plumbing, and mechanical components.
- Proficiency with ladder use for troubleshooting control panels or accessing hard-to-reach areas.
- Experience with appliance repair including diagnostics, component replacement, and system calibration.
- Knowledge of equipment troubleshooting techniques across various appliance brands and models.

- Ability to interpret technical manuals and schematics accurately for efficient repairs.
- Excellent customer service skills with a focus on clear communication and professionalism in field service scenarios.
- Experience operating company vehicles such as box trucks or similar delivery vehicles safely and responsibly.
- Background in maintenance, repair operations (MRO), assembly tasks, electrical experience, HVAC systems, plumbing work, or service technician roles is highly desirable.
