Position Summary
This position works with a medical team and/or an outreach worker to provide street-based medical care to people experiencing homelessness. This generally includes assisting with assessing the patient, documentation, and administering treatment. Medical Assistants will also provide phlebotomy in a clinic setting as well as in an outreach setting. This position will assist the Nurse Practitioner by providing scribe services, processing orders, and maintaining patient care records using an Electronic Health Record.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Provides appropriate medical services and medical support services, including information, lab coordination, phlebotomy, pharmacy coordination, vitals, and coordination with both psychiatric and medical providers
- Communicates information to internal & external partners using the referral process
- Assist Nurse Practitioner in scribing, documentation, and follow up
- Document patient information, condition, and treatment
- Maintain patient confidentiality and perform all care with respect for patient rights
- Maintain a safe, clean, and well-stocked environment for patients (including inventory)
- Operate and drive agency vehicles in conjunction with applicable safety policies & laws
- Provide basic medical care and gather patient data
- Participate in required training and meetings
- Assist supervisor/manager with all necessary reports
- Ability to work well with others, handle stress appropriately, have reliable attendance Other tasks as assigned, including training/cross-training other staff as needed
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
- Ability to identify and respond to issues of confidentiality, knowledge of HIPAA
- Ability to utilize and apply medical terminology appropriately
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to implement clinical care in accordance with outlined policies and procedures
- Ability to exercise sound judgment while working in a stressful environment
- (Preferred) Previous medical back office experience, medical assistant training, or completion of a MA/CMA/program, CMA certification preferred
- (Preferred) Experience doing phlebotomy and/or working with populations with substance use disorder, mental health diagnoses, or who are unhoused
- Valid Oregon driver’s license, or valid out of state driver’s license with the ability get an Oregon driver’s license within 30 days of establishing residency in Oregon, and a driving record sufficient to be covered by agency auto insurance policy
- TB test (provided by agency) Ability to pass agency criminal background check

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:
- Repetitively use hands, including grasping, twisting/turning of wrists, and finger dexterity to perform various clerical duties, such as typing and writing.
- Frequently use arms, such as pushing & pulling to open/close drawers, cabinets, etc.
- Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time at an assigned station
- Bend, stand, & reach to be able to transport clients and to lift/carry up to 50 pounds
- Use continuous clarity of vision at 20 inches or less for processing of paperwork

Working Conditions, Travel and Environment
The duties of this job require individuals to be able to work in non-traditional and community-based settings. Additionally, the duties of this job include travel to other locations necessary to complete essential job functions, including the ability to transport self to job-related events and locations. This role requires regular reliable attendance, including:
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends
- Ability to work 5 days per week for a minimum of 20 hours per week
- Ability to loud, crowded, busy, or escalated environments
- Ability to drive at night and during various weather conditions safely
