Salary: Commensurate with experience, Bilingual candidates are eligible for an additional $1.50 Bilingual Differential

Position Summary: The Finance Director provides vision, support, and leadership on

matters related to finance, budget, and accounting at HIVA. This position is responsible for

oversight of all financial functions and plans. The Director oversees the annual budget of 15

million dollars and works across a sophisticated accounting structure with multiple fund

types. The Director communicates financial data to multiple stakeholders and partners,

internal and external. The Director leads the finance team which includes the Staff

Accountant and multiple payroll, inventory and finance specialists.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Oversee all aspects of financial management and administration of the accounting function including:

  • visioning, planning and evaluation
  • problem/issue identification, analysis, research and resolution
  • accounts reconciliation
  • budget development and monitoring
  • creating and monitoring monthly financial statements
  • policy development and revision
  • training and supervision of employees and volunteers
  • contract/grant negotiations and relationships related to accounting for and reporting to funders
  • maintaining and nurturing of relationships with auditors and Board
  • keeping records organized and self-explanatory for programs
  • leading annual agency and program specific financial audits

Provide supervision, training and support for finance staff

Develop an annual plan in conjunction with Executive Director

Prepare timely reports for the ED, Management Team, Board of Directors and help with budget aspects of progress/final reports for program contracts/grants

Develop benchmarks and meaningful reports for the leadership, board and community

Participate in team management of agency and development of long-term planning goals and objectives


Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or Higher.

Four years of progressively responsible experience in non-profit or government accounting

Knowledge of:

  • Non-Profit accounting
  • Full cycle bookkeeping up to and including financial statement preparation
  • Grant budgets, reports and applications
  • GAAP Accounting and finance principles
  • Accounting software
  • Microsoft Suite, with excellent Excel skills

Ability to:

  • Lead, coach and supervise Finance Staff, setting an example of strong ethical standards
  • Prepare and monitor agency budget
  • Ensure that internal and external finance deadlines are met and that financial information, reporting and data is timely and relevant
  • Present key financial data to a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including those without finance background
  • Work in a fast-paced environment with grace and consistently meet deadlines
  • Analyze and evaluate challenges and develop creative solutions
  • Streamline complicated processes
  • Develop meaningful benchmarks, identify trends and provide financial projections
  • Keep accurate and thorough records keeping and organize financial data
  • Communicate effectively, both in writing and orally

Ability to pass agency criminal background check

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to

  • Repetitively use hands, including grasping, twisting/turning of wrists, and finger dexterity to perform various necessary clerical duties, such as typing and writing.
  • Frequently use arms, such as pushing & pulling to open/close drawers, cabinets, etc.
  • Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time at an assigned station
  • Bend, stand, & reach to be able to transport clients and to lift and carry up to 25 pounds for tasks such as building kits & assembling testing/educational materials.
  • Use continuous clarity of vision at 20 inches or less for processing of paperwork

Working Conditions, Travel, and Environment:

The duties of this job require individuals to be able to work in non-traditional and community-based settings. Additionally, the duties of this job include travel to other locations necessary to complete essential job functions, including the ability to transport self to job-related events and locations. This role requires regular reliable attendance, including:

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends
  • Ability to work 5 days per week for a minimum of 40 hours per week
  • Ability to work in loud, crowded, busy, or escalated environments
  • Ability to drive at night and during various weather conditions safely
