What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller / Senior Financial Analyst position at Hitt Brands?
Tenacious Grit — Punch above our weight, always find a way, and finish strong.
Character Counts — With a family mentality, we lead with our heart and show up for each other.
Earn It Every Day — No ego and never satisfied with “good enough”.
Our Customers' First Call — Exceed expectations, protect their trust, and never take our relationships for granted.
This is a newly created seat on our leadership team. You'll own the financial engine of a multi-brand consumer products company and sit at the table where pricing, item, partner, and customer decisions get made. The mandate is straightforward: know what drives profitability and lead us to more of it. In a lean organization like ours, that influence is immediate — your recommendations become decisions the same week, not the same fiscal year.
• Full accounting cycle in QuickBooks: AP, AR, GL, reconciliations, and monthly/quarterly/annual close
• Timely, accurate financial statements the owner can actually run the business from
• Inventory accounting: landed cost, COGS accuracy, physical/cycle count reconciliation, obsolescence reserves
• Cash management, forecasting, and working capital planning
• Outside CPAs on tax; banking, insurance, and lender reporting relationships
Profitability & Analysis• Build and maintain SKU-level and customer-level P&Ls — true landed cost including freight, duties, tariffs, packaging, and allowances
• Quantify the margin leaks specific to our business: retailer deductions and chargebacks, OTIF and compliance fines, co-op and markdown allowances, freight variances, returns, and licensing royalties
• Model pricing, quoting, and new item decisions — tell us the margin before we commit to the program
• Annual budget and rolling forecast; actual vs. plan with an explanation, not just a variance column
• Recurring management reporting: margin by brand, customer, channel, and item
Systems & Integration• Serve as the connective tissue between QuickBooks, our WMS, and our product database — establish the item master as the single source of truth and drive toward automated data flow
• Scope and help implement middleware, an integration layer, or an ERP path as the business warrants; build the business case and manage the vendors
• Eliminate manual re-keying and spreadsheet workarounds; establish internal controls and documented processes
• 5 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with meaningful time in consumer products, manufacturing, or wholesale distribution — you understand inventory, COGS, and landed cost in your bones
• Hands-on ownership of a monthly close and full financial statement preparation
• Strong QuickBooks (or comparable) and expert-level Excel — modeling, pivots, large data sets
• Proven ability to pull data from disconnected systems, reconcile it, and turn it into a decision
• Comfortable in a lean, fast-moving environment: strategic on Monday, coding invoices on Tuesday
• On-site in Bentonville, AR
Strongly Preferred• Experience with Walmart, Sam's Club, and/or Amazon as a supplier — Retail Link, EDI, deduction and dispute recovery, OTIF, and supplier scorecard economics
• Systems integration or implementation: ERP, WMS, PIM, or middleware (Celigo, Boomi, or similar)
• Import and domestic manufacturing — POs, landed cost build-up, duty and tariff treatment
• Licensing and royalty reporting; multi-brand or multi-entity consolidations
• CPA, CMA, or MBA
First 90 Days — You own the close and it lands on time. You've mapped how data moves (and doesn't) between our three systems and delivered a written plan to connect them.
First 6 Months — SKU- and customer-level margin reporting is live and trusted. Deduction exposure is quantified with a recovery process running. Budget and rolling forecast in place.
First Year — Integrated systems have replaced the manual workarounds, leadership makes pricing and customer decisions off your numbers, and profitability is measurably better because you're in the seat.
