Founded in 1946 and headquartered in Milford, NH, Hitchiner Manufacturing is an investment casting company supplying parts for the aerospace, automotive, and defense industries.
2nd Shift 3:30pm-12:00am (8% differential for 2nd shift) 18.34/hr. with differential
Primary Function:
The Heat Treat Operator position works in the production/manufacturing operations with close, direct supervision to perform basic heat treat operations to produce parts to customer specifications and tolerances. Operators at this level may be moved and cross-trained on several pieces of equipment to develop a core understanding of heat treat concepts and processes.
Tools and Equipment:
Heat treat furnaces, grids, baskets, liners, thermocouples, heat sinks, dedicated loading device
Materials:
Cast Metal Parts
Cleaning medium (Acetone as applicable)
Thermocouples (e.g. expendable type K building)
Working Procedure:
The following are the usual major job duties, but this job description does not preclude the performance of other duties as assigned by the supervisor:
Safety
- Maintain a clean and orderly working environment.
- Must follow all safety requirements of job as outlined on the job safety card.
- Lifting procedures.
- Argon, hydrogen gas procedures (when applicable)
- Lifting heavy loads
- Forklift Training
- Operators need to be Confined Space Trained, and LO/To Authorized
Operations
- Performs general labor work throughout the heat treat department; manually loading and unloading of furnaces, loading and unloading of heat treat fixtures.
- Use of designated loader for loading and unloading furnaces.
- Performs basic operation of heat treat equipment.
- Properly load parts and/or combine work orders for heat treat.
- Create loading diagrams.
- Load appropriate test samples
- Clean parts
- Set up work thermocouples (heat sinks and/or attached to parts)
- Monitor heat treat cycle in process, troubleshoot as needed per work instructions
- Unload parts safely
- Performs basic PMs of selected machines.
- Assist maintenance team as needed.
- Changing out thermocouples in accordance to work instructions and authorized approval.
- Cleaning out furnace
- Meets daily production goals for selected machines.
- Correct selection of heat treat cycle including ramp up rates, time, temperature, tolerances, quench, cooling rates, and atmospheres based on customer specifications and requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Operation of hardness testing equipment (as applicable)
Quality
- Must accurately complete all paperwork associated with the job. Correctly follow and maintain all forms and instruction sheets.
- Maintain a clean and orderly working environment.
- Inform your supervisor about problems that occur and properly quarantine parts/orders that are suspect.
- Document all nonconformances.
- Participate in internal and Nadcap audits for heat treatment
Special Skills and/or Experience:
- 6 months experience working in investment casting, foundry or manufacturing environment.
- Experience with alloy processing in aerospace industry a plus.
- Intermediate computer skills: Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook; ability to input data into ERP system. Will be asked to demonstrate.
- Requires sufficient strength and physical dexterity to frequently lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must possess basic math proficiency (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals). Will be asked to demonstrate.
- Vision requirement of 20/20 or better in at least one eye, per the J1 standard as well as color perception.
- Ability to effectively communicate.
- Ability to work in a team environment (ability to work independently as well as within a team).
- Willingness to be cross trained on multiple heat treat machines/equipment.
- Ability to learn & read drawings, technical specifications.
Minimum Education Requirements:
High School graduate or GED minimum
Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Certificate a plus.
