Work hours for this position:
Monday - Friday from 7:00am to 3:30pm
This is a field-based position, requiring a minimum of 90% of employee’s time being spent on site. Work will occur throughout the BART Metro System.
MUST have CURRENT OSHA 500 Card, as well as CPR/FA (these are client contractual requirements).
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Conduct effective toolbox meetings and provide basic safety training.
- Initiate incident notification and response, and emergency procedures.
- Recognize and correct hazards.
- Communicate effectively with the field staff, project leadership, and client representatives
- Complete daily inspections using provided HSE software.
- Support the completion of Accident, Incident, and Near Miss Investigations
- Act as the Hitachi Rail HSE representative on the site.
- Successfully implement and support the Health, Safety and Environmental Management System (HSEMS) in the field
- Ensure that work is being executed as planned, assist with corrective measures, and provide resources to correct and maintain solutions
- Assist in the review, updating, and communication of the (HSEMS) to everyone including subcontractors
- Collaborate with the craft every night in the field to encourage buy-in of our HSE management system and to support craft ownership of HSE
- Provide Project Orientation and 4-Hour Roadway Worker Protection (RWP) trainings as needed.
- Exercise Stop Work Responsibility to ensure adherence to company policies, regulations, Pre Task Plans and Safe Work Practices
- Plan, prioritize, and problem-solve with operations in the field every day based on leading indicator trends and upcoming work
- Encourage, support, inspire, and advise staff and craft employees to execute the Construction Safety Manual (CSM) and (HSEMS).
- Assist with first aid and maintain relationships with emergency medical services and clinics
- Assist with incident investigations, and implementation of effective solution
- Complete a daily documented hazard inspection and assist operations, craft, and subcontractors with implementation of corrective actions
- Assist and provide safety training on policies, procedures, toolbox talks, OSHA/FTA standards, orientation, and client-specific requirements
- Complete other duties as assigned
- Perform work safely and effectively
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies
REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
- OSHA (or Cal-OSHA) 30-Hour Construction Safety & Health Card
- OSHA 500 Authorized Outreach Trainer Designation
- Current CPR-FA-AED Certification
- 5 Years of experience in Construction Safety and Health
- Communication, presentation and training Development and Delivery Experience
- Experience engaging in diverse and dynamic teams
- Experience integrating into project teams and engaging stakeholders from across all disciplines in the HSE Program
- Comprehensive knowledge of Cal-OSHA, California EPA, Federal OSHA, USEPA, Department of Labor, and Local regulations, policies, and legislation
- Experience implementing site HSE programs
- Demonstrated ability to inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices for compliance with corporate and legislative requirements, standards, and regulations.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships and promote a harmonious safety environment.
- Ability to complete written reports and electronic communications expeditiously and with a high-degree of accuracy and professionalism while in the field.
- Computer proficiency with a strong knowledge of PCs and software applications related to the work, such as MS Office, Word, Excel, Access, SharePoint, etc.
- A valid non-probationary California Class “C” Driver’s License
- Demonstrated ability to identify and take action on safety-related issues, conduct root cause incident investigations, and handle both uncomfortable and sensitive situations.
- Ability to work throughout the Bay Area
DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
- CHST Certification
- CSP or BCSP Certifications
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's Degree in an Occupational Safety or STEM field

English Proficiency
The salary range for this position is $97,600 to $146,400.
Final pay is determined by the candidate’s experience, skillset and ability level, internal equity and location.
