What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Preservation Manager position at Historic Salem, Inc.?
Historic Salem, Inc. (HSI) is seeking an enthusiastic individual to fill the part-time Preservation Manager role, effective late spring 2026. An ideal candidate will live in Salem, MA or on the North Shore.
Reporting to the President of HSI, a self-starter who can coordinate preservation advocacy within the Salem community should fill this 20-hour/week independent contractor position. The position combines research, project monitoring, writing and public advocacy to ensure that historic preservation is an important part of Salem’s public conversation.
General skills required include the ability to write well, review policy documents, and summarize often complex development issues. Technical skills should include knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and WordPress.
The Preservation Manager will work with HSI’s volunteers and should feel comfortable representing the organization at public and city meetings. If you are interested but only have some of the listed skills, please reach out. HSI values enthusiasm and the ability to learn above all.
