Position Overview The Visitor Services Officer (VSO) is a key front-line role responsible for creating a welcoming, engaging, and inclusive visitor experience at Historic Rosedale. As a former plantation site, the VSO will deliver thoughtful and accurate interpretation that reflects the full history of the site, including the experiences of enslaved people.
Key Responsibilities
· Provide guided tours and serve as the primary point of contact for visitors.
· Manage admissions, ticketing, and the Square point-of-sale system.
· Oversee gift shop operations, including inventory and merchandising.
· Track visitor data and prepare basic financial and attendance reports.
· Coordinate and execute group tours and school programs.
· Recruit, train, and manage volunteers.
· Promote and manage membership programs.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in a social science field (history or museum studies preferred).
· Customer service experience and strong interpersonal skills.
· Ability to work collaboratively in a small team and on Saturdays.
· Positive, proactive attitude and a genuine interest in serving others.
· Ability to interpret and communicate the complex history of a former plantation site with sensitivity and accuracy.
Compensation
· Salary: $40,000 annually
· Health Insurance Stipend: $5,000 annually
