Responsibilities
- Prepare tissue specimens through grossing, fixation, processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and mounting using advanced laboratory techniques.
- Accurately identify, label, and document specimens to maintain integrity throughout the processing workflow.
- Assist with specimen collection and processing from clinical sources, ensuring adherence to aseptic techniques.
- Maintain detailed records of laboratory procedures, specimen tracking, and quality control measures.
- Support pathologists and clinicians by providing high-quality slides for microscopic examination.
- Follow strict safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and aseptic techniques to prevent contamination.
- Collaborate with pathology teams to ensure timely processing of specimens in accordance with project or clinical timelines.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures related to histology, including gross tissue examination, tissue fixation, dehydration, embedding, sectioning, staining, and coverslipping.
- Experience with clinical laboratory practices.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathology to accurately interpret specimen requirements.
- Proficiency in specimen collection and processing techniques.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety standards including proper disposal of biohazardous materials.
