Position
The Financial Navigator is an essential member of our Workforce Development program at the Hispanic Center of Western Michigan (HCWM).The primary responsibilities include serving as a Case Manager and Financial Coach/Navigator for participants referred for financial coaching, lending circles, and small business lending. The Financial Navigator will function within internal and external teams to deliver seamless services to the participants and to ensure that positive relationships are maintained resulting in the success of employment outcome for participants. This role will also support participants in developing pathways toward homeownership by providing guidance on credit building, savings strategies, and homebuyer readiness.
Responsibilities
- Conduct one-on-one financial coaching sessions addressing credit management, budgeting, banking, debt reduction, savings, and financial planning.
- Provide one-on-one support and guidance for clients interested in and/or actively participating in lending circles program, including application support, program participation, program completion and challenges.
- Assist small business owners to apply for small business loans, including providing them assistance with program information, referrals, document preparation, coaching referrals, and check-ins.
- Organize and plan educational workshops for program participants, delivering presentations in collaboration with partner organizations.
- Establish relationships with external trusted community agencies for additional support and services, including banking, business coaching, financial education, housing stability, training, and other financial and holistic services.
- Refer participants to other HCWM staff and respond to referrals received, ensuring holistic approach to client services.
- Participate in community outreach events and implement innovative activities to raise awareness of services.
- Work collaboratively with the Workforce Development team and other departments to provide a holistic approach to services.
- Attend meetings and training to maintain knowledge of financial and social service issues and share insights to improve service delivery.
- Accurately collect and maintain records of services provided to participants using computer data systems, including intake forms, case notes, data entry, and progress reports.
- Ensure timely and complete data entry for reporting purposes and grant outcomes tracking.
- Provide monthly reports and other required data to leadership and grant managers.
- Maintain confidentiality of participant information and ensure appropriate releases of information.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of the organization.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in banking, business coaching, human service or related field from an accredited institution or equivalent employment experience.
- Demonstrate ability to communicate in both verbal and written formats to meet position responsibilities. (Must be Bilingual in Spanish both oral and written).
- Ability to work with diverse populations and individuals with socioeconomic challenges.
- Demonstrate knowledge of current employment practices and opportunities.
- Proficiency of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Preferred minimum 2 years’ experience in Human Services, Banking, Financial Coaching, or Business Coaching.
- Preferred 2 years work experience with individuals with socioeconomic disadvantages.
Work Schedule
This is a full-time, onsite position with a Monday to Friday schedule. The Financial Navigator may be required to attend evening and weekend events to support the HCWM team and perform other duties as assigned.
